lame question

i'm approaching the first birthday. almost 100% colonization on all of my cakes, no contams. i feel bad ass. i plan on doing some of my pf cakes in a case (casing 101), and the others in a chamber. here is the basic idea:

70 liter clear rubbermade box with perilite/water, cakes on tinfoil. fanning, etc. no spraying because of the perilite, correct? fanning 4-6 times a day. temp ranges will remain 75-80 degrees f without heater. light source will be the sun, maybe flourescent tube if needed.


does this sound reasonable for the first fruiting? i had this set a few weeks ago on paper, but i get a little paranoid just before taking action with such matters.

No spraying, unless your relative humidity is too low for some reason.....should be fine.

Maybe a small amount of bleach in the perlite water, just to be safe.
SUnlight works fine for pin induction.

thanks. i get to reading these forums, books, etc and i have all of this information, alot of which i don't fully understand/can't really apply to this, a first grow. my brain gets all bogged down with things i should not yet be concearned with.

actually, i'd suggest some h2o2 (peroxide). bleach is used more to clean your chamber after fruiting and such... it's a bit harsher than peroxide. other than that, sounds good.

but the only problem with peroxide as an anti contam agent is the fact that it breaks down so quick.

Besides, a mebbe 1% bleach solution added to the water should be harmless. It's not as if there's any direct contact between water/cake.

true, it's really up to you.

i find perlite dries out quickly and you have to add water every 4-5 days, so i just add peroxide to the water i'm adding. i figure the peroxide won't completely break down in that time.

Peroxides are unstable as fuck.

They're used as explosives, in many places.

Might wanna up the refresh rate a bit. :smile:

i've never really had a perlite contamination problem, so i'm not that worried about it. no nutrients, just water and expanded volcanic rock down there.

I like h2o2 or even iodine. I don't care for the bleach smell that much but it has it's place alright. H2o2 breaks down rather quickly and chlorine dissipates rather quickly but it seems iodine stay for the longrun. just my $.02
