Are these pyschedelic? They sure look like liberty caps, but I've never picked any shrooms before. I just got grass put in my yard, the kind they lay out in strips, and these have been popping up in small clusters.

The caps look a lot like dried Cubensis cap nice and golden, the stems have a golden/tannish color to them also. The temps are around 95 during the day and 60 at night. Are there better ways that I can scan them so somoene could identify them?

not so, ive seen them very yellow, ive also seen them not bruise blue, however, it is 100% impossible for them to grow this time of year.

My scanner made them look that yellow, they actually are a darker golden color. They were fesh last night but I forgot to pick them so now they are all dry, I'll see if I can find some fresh ones tonight.

Those look similar to Icelandic Libs, I found mostly more yellowish ones, and these do look quite a bit like the dried libs I had.... But again, I would have to see fresh pics to be sure.... Did you take a spore print?
BTW the Icelandic Libs do not bruise blue at all, and I find they do look different from the ones I've seen from the East coast of Canada and the UK Libs..... Not a big difference mind you, but subtle ones....

I live in southern arizona, and I know for a fact that cubies and liberty caps do grow in this state. They were all killed by the heat so I couldn't get any big fresh ones right now. Maybee in a few days if it cools down again. I found a few more so heres a size comparison. I will take a spore print next time. Thanks for the help.

liberty caps in AZ? doesnt sound feesable. they require colder temps for fruiting. that doesnt mean you dont have a psilocybe. do mexicanas grow in AZ? if those were libs then you would have had to have had a summer, followed by a cool wet autum around 5-10 degress Celcuis. to my canadian knowlage AZ is hot dry and desert-like most of the time and doesnt tend to facilitate semilanceata growth. to push that one step further, i think its a sorta given that cubensis and semilanceatas are two species so climactically different that it would not be possible for them to grow in the same region. how are you sure you have them there? is it from a reference or experience? just doesnt seem right for you to be finding semis in AZ or in any time other than mid-autum. what temperature would you estimate these fruited in? thou speakest arite i am the merry wanderer of the nightEdited by Mitchnast on 05/16/01 03:40 AM.

Well Arizona is a very diverse state, there are mountains that are cold all year long where liberty caps grow, and tons of dry hot desert. I have spoken to Andrew Weil, who is an ethnobotanist, and he has collected liberty caps throughout this state in the colder regions. Cubies are abundant in the cooler regions like Sedona. So maybee the spores were already in the grass from wherever it was grown and when my sprinkler system started running it caused them to fruit. They fruited during a day that had 90 degrees as a high and 60 as a low. The 90 degree temps killed them though, they're all shrivled up now. Mjsrhroomer said, in recent posts, that the only psilocybe species that grow in Arizona were gymnos which isn't true. Not trying to be prove you wrong or anything MJ just leting you know.
In reply to:
These two are the only reported spefies of psilocbian fungi to be found int the great state of Barry Goldwater. arizona Gymnopilus sapineus G. spectabilis. Best regards in your venture, mjshroomer
Check out some of McMans pictures of the cubie strain that was found in Arizona.

Around 5-10 degrees Celcius, that's impsooible, no temperature varies that much without exciting JeeLiX. Mitchnast just wants to know the secret style, I know he has never discovered the secret stylew. Only MJShroomer can tell us the secret style, but after 10 posts, I am having enough fun to say that those could be liberty caps based on what I know, just make sure about poison lookalikes. I mean, JeeLiX, I love you, don;t eat a posion llokalike. If MJ wants to cut a funny joke... no, I'm just playing, I have already retired. Peace to MJ, GG, Psylosymon, Woodsman, RobOne, Mitchnast, Polysacharin, Lizard King, etc.

The gills are black/dark brown and they smell like dried cubensis mushrooms. But they stink more, hard to describe the smell but its kind of like nasty feet I guess. Smallputrid, I love you too, you funny walking fool.

Dark spored lawn mushrooms with tawny-yellowish bell shaped caps, fruiting in warm weather? I'm guessing Panaeolus campanulatus species complex, or even more likely Panaeolina foensecii. Do they show any trace of bluing? If not, probably harmless but useless.

Nope no blueing :(, still cool little mushrooms though. I'm sure it would have helped if I had picked them while they were still fresh. Thanks for the help everyone!
