? for those of you with timers on air pumps
    #3178590 - 09/25/04 12:32 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I've come to the conclusion that i'm going to be in need of a timer b/c I've been running my air pump in my PMP 24/7 and they keep burning out after a month or so... I was just wondering where you guys get those timers that let you run something for 15 minutes an hour, and how much somethin like that runs?

I did some searching but couldn't come up with what i was looking for so, please don't shoot me.

15 minutes an hour probably wouldnt give you the humidity you need. What I use for my ultrasonic is a 30 minute timer though from home depot. Got 2 for 8 bucks and put one on each ultrasonic. Its got a round dial with push tabs and you just push in everyother one (and the others are out). This causes it to go on every half an hour for a half an hour. If your going to spend more though why not just upgrade your whole system if your using it for months and get a humidifier? A cool mist could do you quite good (wouldnt suggest ultrasonic as a replacment, go with cool mist, Vicks is a good model) running 24/7. Hook it up with hoses and your golden.. Good luck!

Hmm..well running it keeps humidity at 99% when I had mine running..

Well same with cool mist is said though, its for air exchange not humidity..it does a fine job as well keeping it pretty high.

24/7? What brand? Where can he get one? Dude checked Petco, is looking around trying to find the most quiet and durable.

I haven't gotten to that stage yet(in mushroom cultivation), but I've used the same air pump for the last year for making compost tea. They shouldn't ever burn out. The worst that should happen is that the diaphragm(s) get hard, crack and cease to pump air.

Are you sure your air lines aren't getting pinched or something? A restriction could cause it to heat up and burn out.

It's an Aqua Culture brand, dual outlet that pumps 2800cc/min. I believe you can get them at Wal-Mart, but they're cheap on eBay too.
