Possible Pan Subs
    #3176868 - 09/24/04 11:22 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

The mushrooms seem to have just fruited and look like they are babies to my knoledge.  I plucked a baby one and it was about 3-4 inches in height with maybe a diameter of half an inch for the cap.  Its a dark brown on the ends of the caps and go up to a light brown on the top of the cap.  The stems are fairly large for the caps.  I suspect them to be Pan Subs but I want to make 100 % sure.  I live in Maryland and only Pan Subbs grow here from what I've heard.  The gills are a brownish color.  Here are some pics, I found them in some mulch in my flower bed.  Can anyone Identify them?
heres a pic of one of them.
Heres one in half.

Well, I can tell you that they're definately not panaeolus subbalteatus(or active or worth eating)...

Dreaming of that face again.
It's bright and blue and shimmering.
Grinning wide
And comforting me with its three warm and wild eyes.

On my back and tumbling
Down that hole and back again
Rising up
And wiping the webs and the dew from my withered eye.

Nowhere near a Pan Subb. Looks like a corpinous (sp) of some kind.

I've never seen Coprinus that look like that, my guess would be Psathyrella. Either way, not active.
