I found a huge fungus
    #3176178 - 09/24/04 07:43 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Any one know what it is?...I have never seen anything like it. Im guessing it is some sort of Ganoderma. It looks so cool...almost like a giant clam shell.

I found it on a dead fir tree in a mostly conifer forest.

and how about these ones. I think Ganoderma lucidum is a possibility.

So you think they are both reishi's? that had crossed my mind when I found them (they were growing in the same area)
What would be the best way to preserve the nice colour on the back of it. I am thinking about drying it out so it will last.

Would it be wise to eat the smaller ones? i will wait for more confirmation that they are indeed reishi before I try them.

i think the second one might be ganoderma tsuage(commonly mistaken and supposedly eatable and has similar benefits). but i could be totally wrong since im no expert..

i would say not a reishi...

if the pores bruise brown you're in luck!

if on a hardwood, ganoderma lucidum

if on a conifer, ganoderma tsugae

yup, the pores bruise brown. I guess that makes them ganoderma tsugae. I now remember that it was a dead hemlock it was growing on, not a fir.

I also found this artist conk which I put to good use. I only found one of them :frown: they seem to be kind of rare.

Forgive my ignorance here but do you use these for tripping or do you use them for medicinal purposes, as in tea making to treat various illnesses.

I hadn't realized until recently that some of the polypores are believed to have some healing qualities.

It?s an etching done on the underside of a fungus called an artists conk, and yes I drew it. It was hard to make because you can?t touch the white part with anything but the drawing tool or it makes smudges, so you always have to keep your hand elevated when drawing

If that isn't photoshoped somehow, that is fucking amazing. You've got some talent. I'd dry that thing out and frame it!

Very nice Etching Jimmy the worm.

HEre is a drawing of Psilocybe angkoria by Wipaporn, my artist friend from koh Samui who paints miost of the t-shirts I design.

However, I think your etching is excellent.

have a shroomy day,

mj
