Mycelia growth?
    #3175572 - 09/24/04 04:57 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

The mycelia is right under the top of my casing layer and has been for a week. Should I sprinkle a little bit of gypsum or lime on the casing to promote mycelular metabolism, and to help the mycelia to come to the top? I did this last year and I think it helped, but might have been the reason for contamination on the third flush. Any suggestions would help

Your still incubating right? just want to make sure  Are you saying your myc has stalled? What are your current conditions? Also how thick is your casing?

Casing is about 1 1/2 inch. I put them back in the incubator for 4 days. The mycelia has stalled just below the surface. I think. I mean it is just below the surface. I can see little white spots, but it was the same before I put them back in the incubator. Last year, I put them in the terr. and added gypsum. The mycelia exploded on the surface in that web like structure. If I did add gypsum, how would sterilize it? I didnt last year.
Also when you pull a shroom from the casing can you patch that area and the mycelia colonize the patching?

That is a very thick casing layer dude! I never go over 3/4in. myself. What do you mean their the same as when you put them back in the incubator? You cased incubated and initiated right? As far as sterilizing your buffer I suggest using a hydrated lime/water/h2o2 to spray the surface for now and next time add the buffer when you mixup the casing. Always patch any exposed areas after havesting. You do have an option of forking off that top most layer exposing the myc evenly and giving it a cold shock and introduce pinning, hopefully the casing is very moist if not a couple of light mistings and then leave it alone until pins are set. Just my $.02 GL

I used sphagum verm and lime and gypsum as casing. I incubated three days. Then put them out for a week. Then stuck them back in the incubator for 4 days. The myc remains the same as when I took them out the first time. I did scrape away the excess casing and sprinkled gypsum on the top I know this lowers PH. Then stuck them back in the incubator. So you think I should cold shock them, for how long?
