yeah, the substrate has to be just sitting in the jar for it to work at a normal rate.

i have 20 jars (normal 1/2 pints) 1/2 are b+ and other 1/2 are hawaiian, spores from pf, i actually tamped them down a couple of times to level off the substrate, and i innoculated them 17 days ago, most if not all the hawaiian's are colonized to the bottom of the jar (opposite of the verm. layer) but the bottom still needs to be colonized, and the b+'s are about 1/2 inch from the bottom, one thing that i noticed is that when mycelium touched some of the condensation from the jar it slowed it down the growth, i also made up a shot glass for the hell of it (extra spores and substrate) and it was fully colonized at 14 days,

Do you have a small room where you can keep the heat turned up? If not, try putting the jars in an aqurium. Use the aquarium lights for a heat source. Just seal the top well with a piece of cardboard cut to size. Low 80's is best. I'm having problems getting those damn Ecuadors to pin as well.
