Mold or not?
    #3175122 - 09/24/04 03:27 PM (13 years, 20 hours ago)

I had casings that I started about 2-3 weeks ago. They are bird seed to coco coir. One week ago I cold-shocked the casings and just two days ago it started to look like things were getting back into shape. However, the mycelium (or mold..that's the question here) started to turn grey. Now the casings are starting to look like they are pinning. I've never had this "greyness" before and I was wondering if it is something I should worry about. It isn't wispy like cobweb mold is supposed to be, but it is definitely not the white that mycelium usually is. It actually looks quite thick. Any help would be great. Thanks.

hrm. hard to say without a picture. but, i wouldn't take the chance of eating mushrooms off of that cake if it looks like mold.

sometimes mycelium looks grey if it's getting dried out. is this a possibility?

look at contamination pictures. see if you find anything similar.

Other molds can start out like that also. I'd isolate it if possible unless thats the only one in there then I'd wait and see. No pics eh?

I was worried some of the myc. on my casing was cobweb because it looked grey as well. Turns out it was just really fine stands of myc. and it looked grey because of this...my stuff turned out fine.

Hope it's the same for you.
