yellow spot on cake?
    #3174114 - 09/24/04 10:37 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Hey all,
Ive got two cakes in pop bottle terrariums and one is covered in white fluff and one of the fluff balls had some water droplets on it and it was turning yellow. The one with lots of fluff is 12days old and still hasn't pinned yet. Is there a problem. The other cake has a blue line going through it im thinking that one is cashed but im gonna grow it just to see if i can get stuff to grow. Any suggestions. I am feeling pretty incompitant and am unsure i can get any shrooms to grow at all.

Pharm

yellow, eh? does it kinda look like your mycelium is pissing? older cakes and casings tend to get myc. piss on them. it's just a yellowish, clear liquid.

if it's not that, it's probably contaminated and you should throw it out. now would be the time to get the stuff for that outdoor grow you know you want to do.

oh, one more thing. if you could get a pic it would help alot.

domey, how can you say it's fine without looking at it? i realize you're a vet, but it could be a bacterial infection or something that could hurt him pretty bad.

wait, wait, no.
if it's the "droplets" that are turning yellow, don't worry about it. i think i was reading that wrong. i got like, 4 hours of sleep.

See, I knew the blue was bruising too. Just rather tired at the moment.

The cakes are fine. The yellow you are seeing is "myc piss" a waste byproduct of the myceliums metabolic activity, and an excess (not good) of myc piss can indicate a lack of gas exchange. GL
