Shrooms and tears... why?
    #3173817 - 09/24/04 07:02 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Why does a good dose of mushrooms causes yawning and tears to flow??
I'm looking for the physiological answer...

YSr

I also have had this happen. On the comdown of a pretty big trip I was just chillin on my bed, and my body started creating tears. I don't think it has anything to do with psychology but maybe the human body, because it had nothing to do with sad feelings or whatnot.

the same shit happens to me, i really have no idea why, but i remember someone telling me they had a friend who took way way to many mushrooms and started kinda foaming out of his tear ducts in his eyes, maybe its just your bodys reaction to a large dose of mushrooms...kinda like...why do painkillers make you itch?

I don't know for sure the physiological cause, but from my experience i think that is caused by tension in facial muscles.

It's the result from an automatic contraction of muscles that will lead to tears flowing, yawning and a strange buzz in your ears (similar to the sound of wind rushing through your ears)

Anyways don't worry, it's perfectly normal. Mostly everyone i know gets those side effects from shrooms...

all that yawning and tearing gets on my nerves. maybe the shrooms affect sinuses in some way.

I dunno~ where I read it, but a long while back I remember someone saying that yawning was one of the side effects to *most* hallucinigenic substances...(?) Normally yawning is to get more oxygen to your brain due to decreased air intake.... But I have consciously made efforts to take deep breaths once on a shroom ride, and ya~ still have to yawn.... Kinda makes sense why you see old cultural mushroom artifacts that have a the little guy with his mouth open to the sky....(?)

As for tearing, I noice that the higher the effective shroom dose, the more tears.... Dunno~ why.... I do know that if you have a lose of control in a laughing fit that lasts for a few hours, you are gonna~ clear out your sinuses, your tears, and all your tensions...! Your stomach and face muscles will be sore, and GOD FORBID you get the hick-ups (like me) while you are having your laugh attack....!! It just makes you laugh harder, and your friends don't help by laughing at/with you in this circumstance...!!!

Well, I didn't answer your questions, but I have always wondered about this too....

ChoW~

Best explanation I've heard is that tears are the mushrooms way of washing away the pain and cleaning the windows of our hearts so that we can see things more clearly.

i thought it was more because your eyes automatically tear when you yawn, and they just kind of stay all lubed up.

I've never experienced yawning on shrooms so I couldn't comment. Never really had tears when I've yawned in normal life either?

its been proven that yawning is not in fact a result of lack of oxygen but its just something our brain makes us do to help alert ourselves a bit. Maybe the brain thinks we are sleepy when we are on shrooms so it makes us yawn to try and perk us up a bit.

i think the tears have something to do with pupil dilations and the fact that you tend to stare at things 10 times more. stare at the wall sober and i bet you will tear up too.
