the mommy party and the daddy party..,
    #3173345 - 09/24/04 02:56 AM (13 years, 3 months ago)

the nation...

One cliche among Washington commentators has long been that the Republicans are the Daddy Party (the warriors, the tough-on-crime guys) and the Democrats are the Mommy Party (the gang that worries about health care, education, and such.) Bush was striving to be both Ma and Pa. Seeking the holy grail of most presidents--a strategic political realignment--Bush is attempting to turn the GOP into the Both Parents party, which smites enemies abroad and then tucks you in when the economy falters.

the reason this thread isnt in PAL..is that david corn is comparing the two political parties to traditional gender roles...as such..it should come as no surprise that the disappearence of these gender roles exactly paralells the convergence of the political parties..to the point where many ppl no longer see any real difference...and i dont think its an accident either...

given that the political parties have converged towards the far right (without quibbling about what "far right" means)..and that feminism brought about the disappearence of the gender roles..opens the possibility that feminism..despite its claim as a liberal civil-rights movement..might actually be quite the opposite ..is feminism somehow linked to the far right??...

at first glance..this might look like im confusing causality with coincidince...but there is actually much evidence that this is not the case...we may begin with the hate-filled rantings of earlier feminist authours such as andrea dworkin..robin morgan..and everyones' favourite..the SCUM manifesto..which use the same kind of language as any ultraright white supremacist group...more recently..helen fisher (fascist gasbag) resurrects pseudo-scientific genetic determinism..amidst the backdrop of the corporate globalist new world order...and an excellent example of feminist-neocon linkage may be found in iraq... and  if theres still any doubt in your mind...well..thats what i mean by the "far right" :smirk:...
