Microwaving Rye

I have several gallon jars each with 6 cups of Rye Cereal Grain and 3 1/2 cups water. Since my pressure cooker is too small for a gallon jar and the lids I have will melt in the oven, I decided to microwave them.
I did 3 minutes, shake, 2 minutes, shake, 2 minutes, shake then let cool.
As they cool, some of the water is colecting at the bottom of the jars, and I wanted to know if this is a problem... should I go buy some metal lids for the jars and stick em in the oven for a while or just shake em a few more times while they cool (they're accually still cooling right now) and use them as is...
lemmie know!!

Use smaller jars you can pressure cook. There's nothing you can do with the microwaved rye. Wait a day or two and you'll notice that your rye will look wet, that's the start of Bacilis colonies. Rye can be a bitch to sterilize, even with an hour or pressure cooking. Nothing you can do in a microwave is going to make it work.

so... there's no chance that I could just put some metal lids on and stick em in the oven at 250 for a couple hours?

if you are going to be stubborn, put em in the oven for a couple hour at 260+ deg f. tell us what happens. but chances are low. otherwise just get some smaller jars. im sure there is a reason why people mess with pressure cookers instead of using dry oven heat for sterilization, although i dont know exactly what the reason is.

Ok... this is what I'm gonna do. I don't see exaclty why heat generated from PCing is any different then heat from a microwave or heat from an oven.
I have 6 gallon jars right now that will have 6 cups of rye and 3.5 cups water. I'm going to microwave 2 of them several times with several shakes. I'm gonna track down some metal lids and cook 2 of them in the oven for 2 hours shaking every 20-30 minutes. The other 2, I'm gonna probably end up buying a box of quart jars and just PC them normally.
I'll let both the microwave and oven jars sit in the closet with no spores or myc for a week or so and post results if they are clean to tell y'all exactly how long and how hot to sterilize them.
I understand the PCing is the most praised method of sterilization, but I don't really belive that pressure or water are the reason it works so well.
BTW...
when I get some more money together, I'll probably buy a bigger PC specifially for my gallon jars... can anybody recommend one for this size jar?
