hehe ^

and to answer your question, it doesnt. If you ever find yourself using an insulting or derogatory term to refer to someone here, delete everything you wrote, take a few deep breaths, and see if you can get your point across without resorting to primary school tactics.

If not, you have no good point to make, and you are masking your inability to logically debate with an ad hominem attack.

(the ad hominem attack is like the first and most obvious sign of a philosophical weakness.)

When someone uses name calling its a good sign that their motives for debate are seriously flawed. It shows that they are taking the playground bully mindset and trying to bring it into an adult discussion level.

I believe it can be an exercise in self-discipline and ego control.  If someone calls you a name and you get offended by it, then you know you need to work on taming your ego.  Now, what do you think of that, jackass?

what if name calling is all a person knows? do you automatically disregard him/her? are they all the sudden an enemy?

Im not saying that name calling is good, but you can miss out on some really interesting people.........not everyone is gonna have a lalala happy expression of themselves, maybe that negative expression that you recieve is positive to the person saying shit.

All im saying is no one will all the sudden turn nice and happy, you will run into people like that, its how you react that matters.

I agree

I'm not saying putting people down isn't necessary, I'm just asking to see when people think it helps conversation

yes

the thing is that I don't think words are inherently bad.

it depends on the intent behind the words.

but obviously this question is irrelevent, cuz you would know how to answer, if its a friend, you would know that the/shes joking, even if he/she serious, who cares, if its someone you dont know, and you know they've offended you in an obvious way, just walk off

Whats the problem?
these things dont happen that often, dont worry about it,

lol
pees
