What does Shpongle mean?

Just started listening to Shpongle and I really enjoy their music. I really like "Dorset Perception" and "My Head Feels Like a Frisbee". Anyway I was just wondering what the word Shpongle means? I read some of their lyrics and it sounds like it could mean a really strong trip, but I'm not sure. Anyone know what it means?
I have also been listening to Hallucinogen and Infected Mushroom, but they don't give the same vibe. They seem more techno/dance. Shpongle seems more ambient/tribal or something, more relaxing and hypnotic. I wanted to know if there are any other groups out there with more of a Shpongle feel to it.

There are groups like them but Shpongle is really truely unique in the world of music. Have you checked out their first CD, Are You Shpongled? I find it just a tad bit better then Tales of the Inexpressible.
The other bands that I recommend to people who enjoy Shpongle are:
-Entheogenic (I think they are as close to Shpongle as you're going to get)
-Shulman (Very close as well)
-Future Sound of London (although really not the same type of music at all, I still feel that "Shpongle Vibe" when listening to them, they do some amazing work)
-Mystery of the Yeti Volumes 1 & 2 (One of the first pioneering Psychedelic Ambient releases, people say this is where Shpongle got its start)
-The Infinity Project (More of the same as above, just get it )
And one of my new favorite albums was a self released free one by a guy (I think) named Smashmethod, album is called People Turning Inward. It used to be available on his site, but now its not, but you can still find it on Soulseek. Maybe type Smashmethod into google as well. But the album is really amazing and I can't wait to trip to it. Its got a lot of Timothy Leary talking on it and tribal chants and sitars (they're the best when used right! )
And as for the meaning of Shpongle, take it whatever you want it to mean. Me, I think of it as surfing the waves of infinity and light.

Yeah, I have both Shpongle CD's. They are both great. I have heard Entheogenic mentioned before, I will look into them. Thanks for the reply.

Just an FYI, the remix Sphongle CD is crap. Some tools remixed sphongle songs and really messed some of them up. They sound all trendy and tranceish.

I think Once Upon A Sea of Blissful Awareness remix, as well as Around the World in a Tea Daze (Ott Remix), are fucking great. Just my opinion though.
You can buy a lot of psy ambient cds at www.psyshop.com.
Also check out the new single called Beija Flor. Its amazing, of course.

It's on a vinyl with a remix from Dorset PErception ( Hi step low step mix) if i'm not mistaking.
I'd prolly wait for the next Shpongle instead of buying the vinyl cause the other song is not that good. The original is way better ehehe

Yeah, the original is better. To me it just sounds like they sped it up for the remix. Make it more dancy. Booooo.
Beija Flor is all over soulseek, if that's your thing.
Look me up there.

Simon Posford and raja ram make up shpongle, along with various other musicians. simon is also involved in the hallucinogen project. One of the founders of psytrance. but if you dont like those kinda stuff, its normal you didnt get the same vibe. I sure do.
sorry I cant enlighten you on the meaning, but I believe theres no official info on this. but check site http://www.shpongle.com/frame-main.htm to get a meaning of what is meant by shpongleland and where you may be able to find it
nice recommendations here. especially mystery of the yeti is indeed a journey. I like albums which have a theme, and the songs go along in sequence, to tell a tale. much like shpongle. and the similar artists are for sure shulman and entheogenic, both two unique artists. also check out bluetech, Ott (psychedelic dub), younger brother(simon and benji), celtic cross(simon). hope ya like them.

Bnajankri, if yo like themed albums i'd also recommend:
-Mystery of the 13 crystal skulls ( TIP) -Secret of the 13 crystal skulls (TIP)
Both of them have a Shpongle tune along with great psytrance artists!

Yeah I'm just now checking out Shulman and Entheogenic. They are great to listen to, but Shpongle really is in a league of thier own. Just listened to Beija Flor for the first time and i think it's awesome. Now I can't wait for their third album, and i just started listening to them 2-3 days ago. Anyway, thanks for all the great feedback.

I like Entheogenic a lot because they have samples of McKenna and Christian Ratsch, another psychedelic explorer. I've never heard him on anything else, if I remember correctly. So that was pretty cool to hear when I heard the song he's on. Which is Yage, on the Self Titled album. I also like their use of water samples.
Anyone else notice that the female vocals that are on We Are One from Entheogenic, are the same vocals used on Ott's Smoked Glass and Chrome? Interesting.
Just thought I'd throught that out there.

Isin't Christian Rastch the guy that talks about the yeti (or banjankri) in Hallucinogen - The herb garden
If so I still think that what he says about the yeto is pretty much as trippy as it gets hehe :P
when tripping in the forest this summer I always thought of these lyrics:D

Who's voice is it in the beggining of "A New Way to Say Horray"? It's sort of freaky sounding

I think it's Terrence Mckenna talking about his DMT trip.
I'm not 100% sure tho. This might need confirmationl.
