Calling all Classic Rock experts
    #2793146 - 06/14/04 05:57 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

I need a bunch of songs that are trippy, acid rock, psychadelic, acid folk?? ya know. I'm compiling the ultimate CD and I know that I will be missing alot of the more "unknown" songs (or rather the ones I dont know of), and they are just as good if not better.

Feel free to list the popular ones too:

Some examples of what I'm looking for are:

The Doors - The End, Riders on the Storm,
Anything by Pink Floyd,
Simon and Garfunkle - Sound of Silence, Bookends, The Boxer, Scarborough Fair,
Donovan - Hurdy Gurdy Man
Jethro Tull - Aqualung
Fleetwood Mac - Gold Dust Woman
The Beatles - Let it Be, A Day in the Life

thats what I can think of off the top of my head.

yeah, ya know. Songs that are meant to narrate drug trips

Thanks for the help

As far as PF is concerned, start with the first 2 albums (which had Syd on it) Songs like Astronomy Domine, Arnold Layne, and See Emily Play are good choices. You might want to try some songs of Syd's solo stuff like Octopus. I always liked Set the controls for the Heart of the Sun, although non-Syd esentially, still an awesome song. The moral, check out the older stuff, pre Darkside(although itself a must)

This site is also cool because you can look at pretty much any band you know and it will tell you similar bands you might not have heared of. You can also keep following the links all over the place to discover new and wonderful music!

The Monkees - Take a Giant Step, Porpoise Song
The Byrds - Wasn't born to follow
Cat Stevens - The Foreinger Suite, 18th Avenue, Sitting
Talking Heads - And She Was
Mamas and the Papas - Twelve Thirty
Jefferson Airplane - as well as the usual tracks try 'Lather'

Try any prog rockers like Pink Floyd or Yes (incidentally try to get a copy of Leg of Time by Bill Bailey for a good parody of Prog Rock).

Probably one of the best options would by Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland, one of the psychedelic rock masterpieces.
(specially 1983, a 15 minutes suite of pure trippyness, whithout a doubt the best 3D-4D sound to date in pure stereo)
Of course, The dark side of the moon, probably THE album to hear for some trippy musical phylosophy.
I must go now, but I'll try to most more soon.
