advice needed
    #3166355 - 09/22/04 08:55 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

should i toss this one out?
(i got one more that looks just like this...)

what looks like black is just empty space where the substrate was not filled... but look at the diffrance betwine the color of the substrate below the mycilium and the normal substrate...

any chance that it's ok?

Is there some kind of growth in the lower part? Can you see threads? It almost looks like there's light growth, which could easily be mold.

Hmm, looking at the pic again, I'm wondering if the center dark part isn't the contamination.  Is it darker than 'normal' or is the bottom part of the jar lighter than 'normal'?  If the middle is darker, than it's likely a bacterial problem.

So not the best news, it looks like either bacteria in the middle or mold on the bottom :frown:

However, that definately looks like Bacillus on the bottom left hand corner. Has that "wetspot" grown during colonization simisu?

hummmm.... no actualy the darker part is not the natural color....
i guess my explanation wasn't the best...

well... bactiria...
i guess i have to face it then... i was hoping for a mirical
just kidding...

well... then now i'm thinking about taking it out and cutting away the infected parts and just putting it in some plastic glasses with a sandwitch bag on top... any chance that would work?
can't hurt trying right?

thanks for the help!

From what I have read, in less than a week if it is the wet spot bacteria you will be able to tell because the substrate will simply turn to mush. I would let it sit, isolated of course, for several more days. I'm also a newb though so do what you see fit with your children

Toss it out in your garden. The shrooms that grow, if any grow will be safe to eat.
