Help with Scotts 3-in-1
    #3166325 - 09/22/04 08:45 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

I had done oven-bag pasturizing of Scotts 3-in-1 organic compost mix as I had seen some nice results from this site. I had 3 PF jars that I broke up to colonize the compost mix.

It's been about 4 weeks and I sitll cannot notice any large change in colonization. The trays are incubated at 86*, fanned at least once daily. I'm not sure what my issue is.

I am fairly new to bulk substrate and using trays, but I've spent a lot of time poking around the FAQ as well as doing searches and I can't find much information pertinent to these circumstances. Any help would be appreciated.

Is it possible I did not use enough broken up mycellum and that is why it's taking so long to colonize?

There is high humidity to be honest, but I will lower the temp and see what happens.

I think your misunderstanding. The 3-in-1 organic mix can be used as a top casing layer in place of coir/ verm after being pasturized. But to grow em on you need nice damp straw and optimally a bit of manure.

And if you want to start spawning then stop wasting money on verm and BRF. Buy a big bag of birdseed for mad cheap and some polyfill.

You can do a multi spore injection on wbs. It looks so cool when it germinates. All over the jar at once.

There is straw and it is being used as a casing layer. I ground up the cakes to see if it would speed anything up but it's just creating clumps that turn white then do nothing.

Your using straw as a casing? So you dont have straw at the bottom with broken up cakes all colonized then the 1-3 on top?
