Tub in tub incubator a waste of time?
    #3165299 - 09/22/04 04:52 PM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Yesterday I bought a 200 watt fish tank heater for 50CAD....and now that ive got my tub in tub all set up im starting to see how pointless it is....ddo you really need to do all that just to keep some jars warm??? why not just buy a heat fan? Who else agrees with me that the tub in tub setup is kind of overly made?

Nope. I just use kitchen cabinets, they always seem to stay at around 77 degrees. works fine.

IMO, incubation is over rated. Room temp is fine for cubes. And it doesn't slow the colonization much... especially with grains.

yea, but its a nice igloo, ok, i get about 2 or 3 months when i could get away with no tub, but other than that forget about it, i cant wait to move somewhere nice and tropical. people who live in warm places are smart.

I have been reading a lot about growing because I'm attempting my first grow in a about a week or so. Incubation seemed like the biggest hassle to me. I read up on some posts and I'm starting to believe that it's more for people that want to get to the fruiting stage as quickly as possible. I don't think it's a necessity like some say. I'm saying the hell with incubation and lightning, and I'm just going to jump straight into it. As long as you have a sterile environment, I think these shrooms can probably grow pretty well on their own, without an elaborate setup. I'm new to this though, so don't listen to me. :tripping:

heat fans and other similar heaters tend to dry the jars out if they aren't sealed.

i don't think it's pointless or over made. it keeps the jars warm in a super simple way...

well beings how they cost like a total of about 30$ i dont think its a waste to pay 30$ (if that) to get jars done in less than a week and further more room temp at my house is like 69 and i like to fruit at 75 and incubate at 85f

^^^^

wait, wait, wait: are you saying that with the tub incubator you can fully colonize a jar in under a week?!?

Wow

I love these posts when people think that jars are just fine in room temps. Why? cause it's always the same people wondering why their jars take Two and three weeks to finish.

Since you have the tub in tub already put some jars in the closet and some in the tub and watch what happens. Then come back and post that it's a waste of time.

My jars get throne out if they take longer then 9 days (quarts) to finish so I'm gonna stick with the tub or any method that keeps the jars in the right temps.

why would you throw out your jars after 9 days?

I agree with magash. Tub in tub has too many advantages.
controlled temp
cleanliness
no drying out
no light
fast colonizing
out of sight
ect,ect...

Its not really a waste of time if its saving you time. Most people already have the tubs in they're house and a heater costs all of 30 bucks. Not to mention if you live in a cold area your going to have to buy one anyways. Besides whats 30 dollars when you already spent 150 on all the other supplies.

I thought it was a waste of time too, untill i saw that this
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/files/04-32/159626936-finished_jar_Small.jpg
could be grown in 9 days.

Wowza, i said, and bought myself a PC and a tub in tub setup.

Not a waste for for people that grow optimally. Stable temps (82-84F.) make for the fastest colonization times and also make for an easier temp drop when initiating pinning. TnT is the next best thing to a commercial incubator. IME I recommend it for anyone who is serious in growing period.
