The little guys are comin' along but I think they're confused about which way up is. Are blue LEDs possibly not the best thing for light? We'll see. The white stuff around the caps isn't mold is it? The bluey crap is bruising from where a few blobs were pulled off a couple days ago (with some regret). living and learning

Just keep the light source constant. Looks pretty good man, keep us updated!

Looks good! Have a nice trip!

I use one similar to that, but it's got a clock and barometer (for barometric pressure) in it too... I picked it up at Radio Shack for $30.

Just an update on my friend's first (ever) flush. 17.1 grams dry from 5 x 1/2 pint pf cakes. Seems pretty typical, he's hoping for the full 7 grams per cake after 3 flushes, but he doesn't know if he'll quite make it. Cut him some slack though, he's new. He's wondering if dunking would have helped?
Info about the setup:
-Small (but tall) PMP with hydroton, 5$ aquarium pump and 10" bubbler -2 x 50 cent LEDs -2 x 10 cent resistors (470 ohm) -free 9V dc wall wort transformer, sitting around, don't even know what it came with -12" piece of clear acrylic square rigid plastic tubing (1$) for mounting
Just a note. My friend used a whitish translucent tub that reflected the LED light so the tub was almost equally bright from all sides. The light was left on all the time and the tub was stored in a dark closet. Hundreds of pins formed but the mushies got confused about which way was up (They seemed to eventually figure it out though). If your doing LEDs inside of a tub, my friend recommends looking for a tub that will not illuminate from all sides.
Benefits of LEDs: cheap, low power, low heat, very near optimum colour, compact ,long lasting, lightweight(just glue to the top of the tub, no cutting) and EASY.
Detriments: ?????, who knows, probably something, availability?
So, yeah, there it is, quasidocumented use of blue LEDs as light sources. Hopefully, this helps somebody.
