So, the vet said it's an "allergy." We've been giving him steroids.... This is not helping. He's simply losing his fur! OMFG! Will I have a half-hairless in 12 months??? He's a bit neurotic, but he's a totally good kitty. I mean, he's insti-purr. He loves to be loved. That, and catnip. He loves the herb. Anyone else seen this? 'K. Thanks!

No, dude, that's for a dunk. They're s'posed to come out after 24 hours and refresh themselves. All he does is sleep 16 hours a day and I see nothing getting better.

Are you sure he doesn't have ringworm? That's pretty common with cats. My kitten had it and lost almost half-half of her body hair. It's a tough thing to beat if it's really bad.

You're welcome...I hope you get it figured out. I didn't think a cat could take a pill for ringworm though...it's a skin disorder...
When my kitten had it, I took her in the bath with me every night for about two months. She never got used to the water.

Sincerely hope your kitty gets better soon. Just to agree with what EllemyshShade sez, ringworm is a skin fungus, not an internal parasite worm. One of our cats, Bean, gets skin iritation on her back, and the fur comes out. We use warm salt water to soothe it. Check with vet though, in case it's not good to use with steroids. Pussy cats are the best things ever. btw, what's his name? Mine are Bean, Sausage and Frankie Furter.

You know that exact thing is happening to my dog. She's only about the size of your pussy and for the past two or three years around August she begins to lose the hair on her back down by her tail. This year it's getting worse than ever. She has no fleas, and has been repeadidly treated for worms as well. The vet says he thinks it's an allergic reaction, just like yours told you.
If you find anything out, I'd appreciate it if you'd keep me posted on this, as my pup is getting older and I don't want to see her get sick or anything else happen to her, she's been a good friend for 10 years .

They're are alot of different things that can cause hair loss in animals, from mange to fleas to allergic reactions. If it is allergies one of the most common is their food. There are a number of special diets that your veterinarian can help you with attaining. Also you can draw some blood and have it sent out to get tested and they will send you a serum that needs to be injected like once a month into your pet. But like i said it can take a long time to isolate what is cuasing the allergiv reaction.

Hmmm. It may be an allergic reaction. It's just strange because there are no visible signs of irritation on the skin or anywhere else, aside from the fur loss. While I love him dearly, I don't think I'm going to run out and get a bunch of blood tests for what is a cosmetic problem. Otherwise, he seems fine. Well, thanks for the advice everyone!
