Pedro growing temperatures
    #3163496 - 09/22/04 04:18 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

Since I am living in a dorm room, growing my Pedro's inside is a must.

I like to have it nice and cool inside, but am worried about my cactus.
Is it ok if they are in nicely cold temperatures at night, but average temperatures in the day??? How about nicely cold temperatures all the time??

My room is powered by huge flourescent lights.. do you think they will be good for the cactus as a secondary source of light?

san pedro can handle a pretty rugged location high in the mountains so I would guess it can take varying temperatures with some amount of grace.
as for lighting, put it near a window if you have one.

They are right up to my window, which is right by the air conditioner...

will it vary that much from optimal growth paramaters enough to be significant?

it'll probably go dormant if it's not doing so already.

are the cactus going to go dormant because of the time of year? or because of the temperature from being so close to the A/C?

in combination with the lighting cycle and the consistent low temperatures it probably will cease active growth.

from what i know san pedros are very very hardy plants and can survive in environments ranging from deserts to the peruvian highlands.. indoors is fine just as long as it gets the right light and water..

hardy and active growth conditions are different. It'll be just fine indoors i'm not denying that.
