Bulk WBS problems

Well cooking etc wont be a problem , but I am having trouble buying a large CHEAP bag of WBS, and it shouldnt be hard to do.
I used to use WBS but I have been using popcon for a long time, and when I got WBS back then it was expensive to..... a couple of little bags of finch seed , shouldnt cost that much.
So recently I went to the consumers coop, where I buy my syringes thinking..I live in a small farming town, this is a small farming store they have bulk bags of CHEAP WBS right???
Well they have seed, but they dont have the right kinds.
For example they have a mainly sunflower mix(bulk)....seeds fro specific birds(but none of the mixes contan much millet!) and PURE nyjer seed.
Since I need the seed for spawn, should I go with the pure nyjer seed?????? (I might also fruit one just to see what its like)
Other then the pasta thread in the grow log as of late.
Whats the cheapest spawn substrate??????? (think bulk spawn)
I assume RYE is even more expensive then birdseed, and while I like the COST of popcorn, I am starting to dislike it , its cheap but its not better.
So other then popcorn............. Whats the cheapest spawn substrate??????? (think bulk spawn)

You have checked all your grocery markets and home depot/lowes or wal mart? The cheapest spawn substrate is WBS, i get a 20 lb bag from pathmart for $7 or dive a bit for a 40lb bag for $8.

I get cracked corn at my local farm store. It's only $6.50 for a 50 pound bag. It works out pretty well.

Is white millet a decent substrate? I'm just beginning to look at WBS. I'm trying to understand the different varieties without having a feed store selection right in front of me. Do we need to buy organic WBS to avoid herbicides/fungicides? Or will that wash out in the soak/simmer? Sorry for the noob questions in Advanced forum. Thanks!

I don't understand why it's so expensive for you. I saw an ad in the paper the other day for 10lb bags for like $2.75

Damn! I'm being I dumb ass and posting in multiple forums. Gzawd. Sorry, this is for cult: So, look for pure millet? And we don't worry about chemicals on the grain as we soak them? Plz clear this one up for me, oh, experienced ones! Thanks so much!

Do you live in Vancouver BC? I want to only pay 10 bucks per 20-25 qaurt jars filled. (for spawn) If I can get more for that price great , but I should be able to find at least a deal that good.

Pure millet is stickier when cooked then WBS.
And always buy organic , but for fungi purposes I dont think you have to worry much, as most seed isnt treated, and the funny sounding chemical names on thew back of the bag,are just usually added vitamins, that are rinsed away after you soak , and rinse your seed.
