NOOB Question about Grow Bags
    #3162423 - 09/21/04 11:23 PM (13 years, 1 month ago)

3 weeks ago I started 4 grow bags. As I type one of the bags is doing well and the other three have little signs of life.

1. The one that is doing well has a nice white covering all over the top of the medium. How much coverage should there be? Is it ready? How much longer should I wait?

2. For the other three, is there anything I can do? Is it possible to innoculate again?

I would run the first flush in the bag, you'll notice when they're ready because
they will start forming dense little white knots. Patience is key in this hobby

if its not completely colonized just break it up and shake it around a little
that will aid n speeding colonization, also if you can incubate it at 85 deg F
they will do much better, re-innoculating would be a waste if spores and may actualy cause more problems than it would in solving them

Forgive my stupid question but what exactly do you mean by "first flush".

Thanks for the tips on the other three. I am going to do so right now.

First flush is the first group of mushrooms that the mycelium`puts forth using much of it's energy. Then theres a waiting period where the myc digests more substrate storing energy for a second flush. This cycle can repeat itself many times! GL

Wait for 100% colonization.  I've never used a bag, but I imagine you can shake these or break the substrate up a bit to help it colonize the inside?  Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.
