Lets start with my PmP question... I have all the supplies except for geolite or lava rock. I got a bag of perlite to use instead, but I was wondering if I bought aquarium rocks and sterilized them if they would work also? If so how would you suggest I go about sterilizing them?
Next, sadly I can't find verm anywhere so I will not be using pf brf cakes. what would you folks recommend instead? I am going to try jars with pasta but I'm thinking that I'd like to try something else also. Something slightly newbie friendly would be best.
I am going to inoc 12 jars to start (this is my first time growing) and I'd like to do 6 jars of either B+ or cambos and 6 of Brazilians. If all goes well I'm going to inoc 3 pasta jars with one strain and 3 of another.
Making...
3 jars pasta strain A
3 jars <blank> substrate strain A
3 jars pasta Brazilians
3 jars <blank> substrate Brazilians
So a very longwinded question up there, what do you think would be better for a first time grow with those parameters, B+ or Cambos?

good questions.
no, i wouldn't use aquarium rocks instead of perlite/geolite/lava rocks. the purpose of using those is their porous texture... they tend to help the water evaporate into the air.
i couldn't find vermiculite for the longest time so i held off on trying to grow. i have a huge ass 18 lb. bag that i finally found for $20. It's just not the right season for most places to carry it.. usually around spring they have it. if i were you, i'd move up to grains if you had a presser cooker/canner.
as for the strain decision, i'd go with the cambos. b+ can be bitchy sometimes and likes to stall at bad times... but it's also forgiving to mistakes. b+ is also very contam resistant, i've not seen colonized mycelium from b+ have any problems with contams. in fact, i've seen b+ EAT contaminated pf mixture. the cambos are less finicky most of the time. different people will tell you different things. b+ likes to stall, it's known for it, but other than that it's a great strain with big fruits. i'm sure others will chime in as well.

I gave magash's rye tek a quick look over and from what I see you need pints or better. my PC is hella small, I'm not sure that a pint jar will fit height wise. if there is any way to do grains in 1/2 pints then I'll look into that. I've heard the yields are bigger any way...
well it's split 50/50 atm on the strain so I'll give that a little longer...

Very nice, I will have to look deeper into it then.
about the PC. It's a 4.2 quart (i think) Mirro. I was worried when I put 1/2 pint jars in it to check the space... I'm off to do a little reading and planning...

put the jar on its sides while you cook it. maybe that will work (?)
