Missouri Hunters?
    #3158375 - 09/20/04 10:49 PM (19 years, 6 months ago)

I am new to shroom hunting and I read the FAQ about what types grow in what states. But to my disapointment Missouri wasnt listed.  Do these mushrooms grow in Missouri. I am trying to find this out before Friday because me and my buddys are going hunting.  Thanks :mushroom2:

Since you already looked before coming, I'll help you out. Pan subbs, Pan papilionaceus, and Gymnopilus sapineus grow in Missouri. I recommend you research them, learn about their habitat, season, and most importantly identification.

Although, you would probobly have more luck finding some home-cultivated cubensis for about 20 bucks an eigth. Safer too, and you'll almost always get the real thing.

If you find/buy something you aren't 100% sure of, take a picture and post it up on the boards for a more proper ID, the people around here are usually more than willing to help.

Have fun mushroom hunting, its a blast

Don't bother looking for panaeolus papilionaceus, to my knowledge it isn't active...

--------------------
Dreaming of that face again.
It's bright and blue and shimmering.
Grinning wide
And comforting me with its three warm and wild eyes.

On my back and tumbling
Down that hole and back again
Rising up
And wiping the webs and the dew from my withered eye.

We got excited and decided to go early. We rummaged threw shit for like 2 and a half hours. Once in a Cow Pasture other in a Horse. Searched every inch and didnt find crap or wait we did find crap just no Mushrooms. What are we doing wrong? Or are we just unlucky.
And as far as looking into shit will they just grow on top of it and does the shit have to be really old? And how come its not growing in the shit I found.

Wait for the temp to drop and bit and maybe a week give or take a few days of rain, and then go look. Find the low damp spots of the feild, look in shady areas, like if a pasture is bordered by a forest. Check the big clumps of shin high, healthy grass. Keep looking man it takes a while, you wont usually find anything your first time out. I've got endless hours man, it takes alot of persistence. Another tip which has brought me many great find: When you think you've looked enough, look some more. Trust me, I've walked for miles and just about gave up, and decided to walk for a couple more minutes and found some amazing finds. It takes time man.
