stalk coloring?
    #3158219 - 09/21/04 12:14 AM (13 years, 1 month ago)

So I have a whoole bunch of pins, which is why they're all growing so slow.. but my actual question is that is it normal for there to be coloring on the developing pin/shroom's stalk? Mine have brown spots/sections on them. Its not mold or anything, just discolored. Any ideas?
Thanks

Hard to tell what you mean without a pic. You'll be able to tell if it spreads. I think it would be a very rare occurance though for mold to start growing on good fresh shrooms that are still growing and not rotting. If its just discoloration then its fine.

A picture would really help to figure this one out.

Sometimes caps will water spot and not be bacterial blotches. Verticillium and Trichoderma can resemble each other in early stages also. If Verticillium streaks general hygiene maintenence, proper picking and cleaning practices will help. Carefully pick infected shrooms and seal in a ziplock with minimal contact with uninfected areas. Never water an infected bed until the diseased mushrooms have been removed and the infected zones have been salted with alkaline buffer (baking soda, sodium hypochlorite).
