Libs in a woods on a wood !? (pics)
    #3155648 - 09/20/04 02:36 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

I think I found few Psilocybe Semilanceatas from a woods... and one of them was growing from a decaying wood branch. Here are some pics...

This is the one that was growing from a decaying wood branch:

Here they are all together.... notice the one (in the middle) that was growing on a wood branch still has a little wood chip attached in its roots:

Here is the place I found the mushrooms:

Don't know if this is weird.... you tell me!

-------------------------------------

I also found this funny shroom that had some "hair" on the cap. Not all of them had this hair... only few... and this is the one that had most... the clean ones looked like some mycenas:

If somebody knows what this "hair" thing is please explain.

those don't look like libs to me, but what do i know?

The hair on the mushroom might be cobweb?

That is pretty cool. Maybe there was a horse trail going through the woods at one time and that is where the libs came from. nice find

I thought about that since there is a horse field few hundred meters from the woods. But the problem is that there is no way that you could ride horses in there since there is too little room for that... you would hit your head in a branch in no time...

Your "hair" thing closely resembles Spinellus fusiger, a common mold parasite of Mycena haematopus.

Happy mushrooming!

this past weekend i went hunting in the woods 30 km from turku for some chantarelles and found the same mushrooms growing by decaying wood as well. they're not liberty caps but i believe they could be ps. silvatica?

Ok... thanks. I googled few Spinellus fusiger pics and they look exactly same.

They do resemble liberty caps at first glance, but...

-There is no bluing, not even a hint of it.
-They were growing from wood, which liberty caps do not do.

This would lead me to thinking that they are some other kind of mushroom, and even though they do have a kind of psilocybian look to them they are probably not of this genus.

There are many mushrooms that macroscopically resemble Ps. semilanceata. I'll post a few pics of them when I find them (they're on my comp somewhere...)

Nice find though anyway

wow, those are pretty cool, but I would think growing on wood rules out P. semilanceata.  they definitely have the psilocybe look though, was there a separable gelatinous pellicle (god I love that phrase ), slimy layer that you can peel off of the cap?  how bout the spore color?

DH

I agree with DH....they gotta either be Ps. pelliculosa or Ps. silvatica. My guess would be silvatica just because they are fairly uncommon.
Very nice work man.

my guess would be Psilocybe silvatica.

gregarious (grouped) but not cespitose (singular)
on wood debris or on wood chips or in well-decayed
conifer substratum, in the fall..

Estimated not to be potent.

Erowid says 40 is enough... http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/safe-pik/assorted7.shtml
...isn't that quite potent?

Yes!

I tried to take a print over 12 hours but those shrooms did not drop enough spores to see what was the right color... it just looked like very light brown. But the gills were like they are in Libs... chocolate brown/purpleish brown.

And btw... I asked also Mjshroomer's opinion and he said that these are not not P. pelliculosa, not P. silvatica and not P. semilanceata. He also said that this shroom might be an agrocybe or a Psilocybe which is not psychoactive.
