Fast colonization, but now it's stalling
    #3154794 - 09/20/04 02:15 AM (12 years, 2 months ago)

I injected my mycobag about 4 weeks ago with B+, and it was fully conlonized in a week and a half. I thought things were going to go alot faster than last time. I've been exposing the bag to light for over 2 weeks now, but nothing has happened. I can't see the slightest hint of pins. I also cut the top open and started fanning about a week ago.

I've also noticed that the top is pretty fuzzy, so i thought it might be cobweb, but after doing some research im almost 99.9% sure it's not. There is fuzzy myc, right? My last grow wasn't fuzzy at all, but this grow has white fuzz (not grey) on the top of it. Smell seems to be okay too.

Light is being provided by a fluorescent light about a foot and a half above the bag. Temps are around 70-75, i'm pretty sure humidity is fine also, because there are more than enough water drops on the inside of the bag.

Any ideas? Should i dunk? Should i wait longer? Thanks!

hyphae can look like "fuzzy myc"
just be patient,
make sure the bag is staying nice and humid so that the substrate isn't too dehydrated
it isn't a problem to lightly mist if you need to
i wouldn't reccomend dunking this late in the game though

You want to initiate all your pinning triggers at once! Thats what kicks it in the ass!!! Get a pinning strategy also will reward you time and time again

what exactly is hyphae? I tried a search but didn't come up with much.

Humidity is the least thing i'm worried about.

I think i might have possibly found the problem. I usually expose the bag to light during the night, and currently it has been getting really cold during the night. Gonna change things up, see if it does the trick. It also seems that little clumbs have been forming over the last couple of days. Oh well, wish me luck

It should explode sometime soon.

Don't dunk it, and as you said, maybe try switching up your lighting schedule.

Post some pictures as things progress and good luck!

Be patient... give it a week... if nothing happens, give the bag some air... cut the top open... and reseal it with some paper clips.

B+ is notorious for stalling at inopritune times... it is something the strain is famous for.

Be patient... everything sounds normal.

Congradulations

You really need to do your triggers (light,FAE and temp drop) at the exact same time especially for stubborn strains. Now you really have no choice but to wait it out. GL and may your pins be prolific!

If ya do keep it short (8-10hrs. or less) as cold shocking at this stage in the game will delay pins more than triggering them. GL

Fuzzy mycelium is refered to as being "aerial"
this is a sign of low humidity
your getting colder at night .....this is a good thing as this should promote fruiting

about 12 hours of light seems to work ok
B+ shouldnt need a cold shock
keep the temp at around 70 F, cooler wont hurt
I dont grow in bags but if I did I would open the bags and turn a humidifier on em

thanks for info noxy, but i'm almost convinced that there is enough humidity, judging from all the water droplets on the inside of the bag, also when i open the bag, the inside air seems very humid.

Sounds fine. B+ stalls. Search for B+ and stall.

sorry to bump this again, but i got few questions.

1) I was thinking, since the colonization went so fast, perhaps i started way to early with light/fanning/ misting. Perhaps it isn't fully colonized? I looks like it thought, it is completely white. Perhaps the inside isn't colonized yet? Any thoughts?

2) Do mycobags overlay at all? Especially the top?

Thanks once again

Chances are good it's fully colonized if you redistributed (squeezed) the myc as suggested. As a rule of thumb the faster the colonization the sooner the initiation always. Some strains are so fast that initiation before the myc actually breaks the casings surface is required in order to avoid overlay conditions and to time the switch from vegetative to generative growth optimally. Patience my friend  GL
