Famous Philosphy Quotes

There is a soul force in the universe which if we permit it, will flow through us and produce miraculous results. The greatest battles of your life are fought within the private chambers of your own soul. By the time it came to the edge of the Forest, the stream had grown up, so that it was almost a river, and, being grown-up, it did not run and jump and sparkle along as it used to do when it was younger, but moved slowly. For it knew now where it was going, and it said to itself, "There is no hurry. We shall get there some day." The Flower says, "Well, I must endure the presence of two or three caterpillars if I wish to become acquainted with the butterflies" "Pooh hasn't much Brain, but he never comes to any harm. He does silly things and they turn out right." "We all walk in the dark and each of us must learn to turn on his or her own light." To measure you by your smallest deed is to reckon the ocean by the frailty of its foam, To judge you by your failures is to cast blame upon the seasons for their inconsistencies. The journey of a thousand leagues begins from beneath your feet. Love one another, but don't make a bond of love. Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other's cup but do not drink from one cup. Give one another of your bread but do not eat from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone. Imagination is more important than knowledge The sages do not consider that making no mistakes is a blessing. They believe, rather, that the great virtue of man lies in his ability to correct his mistakes and continually make a new man of himself. Natural forces within us are the true healers of disease I offer you peace. I offer you love. I offer you friendship. I see your beauty. I hear your need. I feel your feelings. My wisdom flows from the Highest Source. I salute that Source in you. Let us work together for unity and love. The shortest and surest way to live with honor in the world is to be in reality what we would appear to be. If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away. Take the first step in faith. You don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step. To make the right choices in life, you have to get in touch with your soul. To do this, you need to experience solitude, which most people are afraid of, because in the silence you hear the truth and know the solutions. The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain. The cup that holds your wine is the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven... When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy. When you are sorrowful, look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight The jungle speaks to me because I know how to listen. So when you are listening to somebody, completely, attentively, then you are listening not only to the words, but also to the feeling of what is being conveyed, to the whole of it, not part of it. A crust eaten in peace is better than a banquet partaken in anxiety. When you were born you cried and rejoiced. Live your life in such a manner that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice. Better than a thousand useless words is one single word that gives peace " I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge That myth is more potent than history That dreams are more powerful than facts That hope always triumphs over experience That laughter is the only cure for grief And I believe that love is stronger than death." "Conquering others requires force. Conquering oneself requires strength." We are not separate from spirit. We are in it The person who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones. " If one advances confidently in the direction of their dreams, And endeavors to lead a life which they have imagined, They will meet with a success unexpected in common hours." The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread. You can outdistance that which is running after you, but not what is running inside you. Our Worst fear is Not that we are inadequate Our Deepest fear is that we are Powerful beyond measure.. It is our Light not our darkness that most frightens us We ask ourselves : Who am I to be Brilliant, Gorgeous, Talented and Fabulous? Actually, Who are you Not to Be? You are a Child of God You Are! And Your playing small does not serve the world There's Nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people may not feel insecure around you We were born to make manifest the Glory of God within us! Its not in some of us Its in Every One of us!! And as We Let our own Light Shine.. We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.. As we are liberated from our own fear Our Presence Automatically Liberates Others... "Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared." seekers.100megs6.com/Sages.htm

The religion which based on experience, which refuses dogmatic. If there's any religion that would cope the scientific needs it will be Buddhism...." Imagination encircles the world. --Albert Einstein A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle --James Keller (1900-1977) Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind. --Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) English author

Mix, Philosophical quotes are not about who says them, they are philosophies that stand on their own. They are meant to inspire the reader to think and feel more deeply about things or to consider, a deeper or even more shallow understanding of existance. I'm going to go and take away the author's name of every quote up there because it doesn't matter who said them. What matters is what is being said.

Just because someone isn't on the same path as you doesn't mean they are lost...
-------------------- Republican Values: 1) You can't get married to your spouse who is the same sex as you. 2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child. 3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer. 4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

ahahahahahaha. That was funny! I'm chill diploid-cool cool. You posted that as an additonal philosophy quote and here I am thinking you were telling me that everyone isn't lost cuz they arn't on my path and I was really confused because if I have a path it would be the no path path and I've posted that. Nice sharing the philosophy quotes post WITH you. Keep the quotes coming everyone if you have more. Diploid You really made me laugh at myself. Thanks! BTW, Since it was written in complete misunderstanding, I deleted it. You had no reason to hear any of that from me.

A monk does not bow down before a king. ~Chinese proverb.
Failure is the mother of success. ~Traditional Chinese proverb.
The more laws made, the more criminals created. ~Lao Zi.
He who steals a chicken while small, will grow up to steal an ox. ~Traditional Chinese proverb.
There is no logical reason for this misfortune. Thus it must be part of my destiny. ~Zi Sang.
Hear all sides and you will be enlightened. Hear one side, and you will be in the dark. ~ Wei Zhang.
Let not the opportunity pass, for it may not return. ~Kuai Tong.
One look is worth a thousand rumors. ~Wen Hou.
How can the swallow understand the aspirations of the swan? ~Cheng Sheng.
Take a man whose third finger is bend and cannot be stretched out straight. It is not painful, neither does it interfere with his work, yet if there were anyone who could make it straight, he would think nothing of journeying such a distance as from Qin to Qu, simply because his finger is not as good as those of other people. But to be grieved because one's finger is not as good as other people's, and not to be grieved because one's heart is not as good as other people's, this is called ignorance of the relative importance of categories. ~Mencius.

Psyka:
"Sometimes our need to believe in hero figures brings about a massive collective pulling of the wool over our eyes in the form of silly hollywood movies and mass media charicaturizations of historical figures."
What I'm trying to say is nice try, but I suggest opening your mind. I grabbed this link off a black rights activist type forum, there are plenty of articles and sources out there for you to continue your own research, so go nuts.
Unless... of course.. it's too painful for you to accept that maybe Ghandi was just another sleazeball politician..
Article concerning Ghandi and his "true character"

Philosophical quotes are not about who says them *yawn*
I was pointing towards an interesting phenomenon where people with extremely poor application of spiritual ideals in their own lives can inspire and move people, spiritually, due not to their own understanding of the concepts but their skill as orators and intellectualizers.. Neat hey?
But really, are people moved by these quotes in quantifiable ways.. do they actually change people's approach to life? Or is reading a clever philosophy quote more like popping a piece of chocolate. We get satisfaction from our brain closing a circuit to embrace a well-said quote, but it's just a transitory linguistic flavour sensation, and as soon as it's washed off our neuro-pallete we're empty.. again.
Yeah maybe it's like that. That people like Ghandi and Allan Watts (alchoholic etc) can walk this planet with so many "spiritual" ideas in their heads without allowing them to cross the membrane down into their "real lives" makes me question the value of these quote-gathering excercises as methods towards "higher consciousness" and "enlightenment."
So.. gettinjiggy.. you're like, this forum's cop, is that it? I'll try to conform to your agenda, but it'll take a bit.

And you are like this forums class clown-thats ussually my job. Hmmm anyway, fuck the idea of me every policing when it comes to keeping order with this crap. I beleive in free will. Say what you want and so will I as i love chaos and disorder, the best comes out of it.
If the mods have a problem with us, well then off with our heads. I have no agenda and conformations are boring. It's like everyone wearing the same uniform, no thanks, that would be a yawn.
In a way, you are acting like a cop and prosecution judge yourself, policing peoples beliefs calling them fools and idiots. I'm just providing a varience of perspectives for the fun of it.
Had you posted your first paragraph in your last reply after your ghandi quote in the same reply, it would've had more constuctive impact. Without it, it looks like you were belittling philosophy in a philosophy forum.
I TOTALLY agree with your first paragragh. In the niburu post, I made a comment about peoples actions speaking louder then words and advised people to look for others practicing what they preach or else face having the wool pulled over your eyes. I don't beleive in leaders and followers either. I beleive in all people being self lead. I can't stop people from leading and following and good luck to you if you think you can. People do get duped because they fail to study the teacher before the teachings.
I liked that you inspired me to make them anonymous. I agree with you that once someone becomes inamired with a teacher, they will start beleiving anything they say. Suckers traps are everywhere.
I disagree that people are not moved by these quotes in a quantifyable way though. Many over the years have moved me. The most powerful one was a zen one having to do with being flexible like the reed verses stiff like the tree that breaks easily. It always reminds me when I get to rigid to flex or I might break. Thats one example of too many to recall.
I do more then just read them, I have changed action as a result of many.
Look at the one someone posted "the more laws that are made, the more criminals are created". Thats fucking brilliant. I have used that one with parenting as I read it a looooooooong time ago. There are no rules in my house, nor punishments and my daughter is highly self discaplined. Adults comment on it all of the time and wonder what my secret is ahahahahahahahahahaha ancient chinese secret.
I love how persepctives here come from every rotation on the wheel. The more multi-prespective enriched we will be. The name calling is the yawn, we all did that in gradeschool. You can make highly intelligent cases without it.
Mix, do what you do around here and I will do what I do and will meet at the bar later for some laughs and cocktails. Ultimately, there are no sides here to me, good bad, right wrong we are all coming from the same side weather we realise it or not, from the one, which is spherical by the way-sideless.

Three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, have governed my life: the longing for love, the search for knowledge, and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind. -- Bertrand Russell

Thank you for that link. I tried looking for more information about Ghandi's true stance but there isnt much information. Perhaps, instead of being rude and pretentious you could supply me with more on that subject?
