ground up sponge instead of vermiculite!?

A sponge has some simalar properties with vermiculite, though maybe more expensive, whos approaval do I have?

i read a post over at DD (when it was still around) about "aquafoam" and how it could be used for tissue cultures. i can't remember it in it's fullest though.

It will work fine given proper use.

In many of the teks, you'll find specific items mentioned. Brown rice flour, perrenial rye grass seed, wild bird food, etc.. many were chosen because they are the cheaper or easier to find than other, similar, items that will work about the same.

In fact, the whole BRF cake thing started because cultivators didn't want to buy a pressure cooker.

Maybe someday James Burke will do a 'Connections' episode about it. ;)
