hay, dung, compost casing

when casing hay, dung, or compost is it ok to put a layer of verm below them to add moisture or will this just aid in contamination?

there has been contraversy on both side of this prsonally I use verm. on the bottom and have not had any problems but I have read about people who do have problems with bacteria try it both ways and let us know what you find

i use perlite under, less contams than verm.
