heat pad question
    #3152779 - 09/18/04 11:39 PM (20 years, 4 months ago)

I just got a heat-pad for my Jars (PF tek) and im nto sure if it is getting too hot.

The glass on the jars feels pretty warm and i dont know if its too hot in there or what.

Any advice?

Should i turn it off at night or will the temperature change stall the growth?

get a thermomiter. that's the only way you're going to know for sure if you're getting it too hot.

I use a heating pad on LOW myself, but I use it under a rubbermaid container. the container's kind of large, and sometimes it's not enough to get me up to 86 degrees F. a blanket helps out sometimes, but I always have to watch my temps.

don't incubate it if you don't know how hot it's getting, you could be hurting yourself by getting it overly hot. mycelium growth slows down substantialy faster per degree fahrenheit if the optimum temperature is passed... so colder isn't going to hurt you as bad.

a thermomiter is the way to go. you can check out wal*mart or a pet store to find some. just don't get the color/strip kind, get a digital one if you can.
