Yes, lots of mushrooms look like them to the untrained eye. Some are poisonous.

He probably saw photos of Stropharia Hofmanii or a similar species which macroscopially look like P. cubensis.

But I will agree with all here. Cubes do not grow in Maine.

Let's see some pictures then. Saying this happened defies the laws of Mother Nature. Something that doesn't happen in this world. If this is a patch someone made with their own spawn then yes in the summer months, but these shrooms do not occur naturally in your part of the country, i'm sorry.

I agree, you may have found cubes there. If you did, they weren't wild, they were cultivated.

Wasn't this thread supposed to be about Liberty Caps?

y aman i have found a couple dozen "liberty caps".  funny how none of htem turned out to be reall :frown:

but today when i was returning my friends camera i saw what looked to be righ, in someones yard.  they were ultra pissy when i put my foot on their grass.  but im desperate so im doing a blck op in the pissing rain/thunder in roughly about 30 mins.  ill get em yet

ok jsut got back, was cut off short due to dog but i got 3.  they look a lot like them but not mature yet.  i was looking on mushroom johns website at his pictures.  the gills look realyl light compared to other pictures i have foudn of them.  and the ones i found look amazingly similar to those found in his picture gallery.

http://www.mushroomjohn.com/species43b.htm

the ones i found the gills look like this:
http://www.mushroomjohn.com/species/psemi24.jpg

and the cap/stem look liek this: but a little lighter colour.

cool thanks man.  does the gill colour vary as much as it seems on mjs site?  this is mad rain and i just took a 1 km stroll around the hood and found probably a few hundred that looked liek they fit.  im taking prints now.  i found 3 that had dark gills, like those of 2experimentals.  the rest were quite light liek the pics of mjs.

BTW i like the phelsuma on the peyote

yes people have found them in seattle.  apperantly anyway.

check in horse and cow pastures by river flood plains, those seem to be the most productive areas in my experience(not limited to flood plains though). Make sure you look the whole field over because sometimes will only grow in the most damp part of the field. And dont be afraid to dig through long wet grass

Where have you been looking? dont look in peoples front yards or the woods you wont find any.

yards, park feilds, and sides of roads.  the ones i found had white prints :frown:  but they look exactly liek so many pictures...

i am headed out tomarow and dedicating the whole day (7am till 9pm..sun up to sun down) to liberty cap searching!  i AM going to find some damnit!  i got some good places in mind.  all feilds, most have had cows inthem all have had derr all through them.  all are nice lush green, very very moist.  and all have forest/tree bunches in them.

so they grow in WET areas eh?  will tehy grow in water?  or is that too wet?  sometimes when im in feilds tehre are little miny streams that are between 2" adn a few feet deep.  would the few inch ones be good?  or maybe right beside them perhaps?  do they care what sorts of grass?  fuck im a noob...

Cow pastures with lots of cow plops is your best bet  Most of the time I find liberty caps in grass that has long hard yellow stocks and some yellowish tinged shoots, they hide in between the hard stocks near the base of the grass. I dont find them in the matted over grass so much.  They can be found in all types of grass in pastures, short or long, good luck!
