    #3150365 - 09/17/04 10:57 PM (20 years, 4 months ago)

Hey I was wanting to know how long to I leave my jars in a 12 psi Pressure cooker for?

And how long does it normally take a well packed jar to colonize?

45min.-1hr. should do the trick. Always best to be sure  Also never pack a jar just a slight tamp is all that is needed with PFTek. I usually have full colonization by day 20 or so sometimes sooner. GL and Welcome

Q: Hey I was wanting to know how long to I leave my jars in a 12 psi Pressure cooker for?

A: Best to pc at 15 psi, 45 minutes is the recommended time. 12 psi should do ok.

Q: And how long does it normally take a well packed jar to colonize?

A: Dependent on the temperature it takes 14-25 days

82F is right about the maximum you want. The perfect temp inside the jars is around 85, but the mycelium make their own heat during growth so you don't want to have the incubator much over 82.

Hotter or cooler usually slows things down.

The mycelium only makes a fair bit of heat when there is actually a sufficiently large enough cake of it to generate heat.

This is true, but it also makes a fair bit of heat when a bunch of small jars are packed close together in an incubator emulating a larger jar.
