water logged jars

Well, after I pressure cooked the jars (using the pf tek) I noticed the bottoms looked really wet. There is no stagnant water in the jars and I used the tinfoil method when I pressure cooked so I dont think any excess water accumulated. Also, my mixture was accurate (1/2 cup verm, 1/4 cup brf, 1/4 cup water) so I cant find any problems there. As far as contamination, they looked this way right after they were p.c. so I dont think thats possible yet. So, what do you think the problem may be? Is this common? Much oblige to any help!

It is hard to say without a pic considering you said you followed the recipe correctly. Unless they look all mushy and sort of like mashed potates (at least the rice flour) you're fine.

well, don't rule out the possibility that some water did get in during pc-ing. not all verm holds the same amount of water, and not all flour absorbs the same either.
chuck em out and put it down to experience. i like this recipe best, where you just add water to the verm until it's 'full' then stir the flour in. prefect every time (this is anno's site, btw, so it's full of gems):

If it's slighty waterlogged you have the option of innoculating and immediately flipping the jars. I have seen this work quite well, the top verm can soak up much of the excess moisture, just another benefit to that verm layer I guess!

Ok my jars (tupperware containers actually) are pretty fucked up, I just read this and thought, "why did I not do this earlier?" I innoculated last night and just flipped, will they still have a chance or does too much water kill the spores? What specifically is the problem with there being too much water if there isn't really any standing water for bacteria to form in? Also, isn't the whole inside of the container sterile, so is it still possible for contams to form in the water after sterilization?

Mycelium cannot grow in saturation because of the lack of air specifically. If they're that saturated they need to be redone which simply means pouring them back into the bowl adding a bit more verm to soak up the excess water, then rePCing. GL

I may do that, but I ran out of verm and though I will have to get it later the whole mixing up shit process just annoys me. They don't seem so terrible that very little will end up colonized, most of the excess water should have seeped through to the bottom of the tub (well top now, where the dry verm is.) I think I will just take out the uncolonized material and then maybe crumble the various tubs together into a few full tubs when I case the un-fucked tubs. Or if they are in decent condition and I can get a level surface not even crumble. Sound like a decent idea or is the risk of contams going to be great?
thanks man you are a genius

I thought it was supposed to be 2/3 cup Verm 1/4 BRF and 1/4 Water?
not 1/2 cup Verm...
does it matter?

That will work fine just make sure to remove all uncolonized substrate. They should be colonized all the way through too.
