Alright, so one of the themes in this forum for the past day or so has been the prospect of a future war in Iran.......
Now, supposing Bush gets re-elected, do you think we will actually invade Iran, or just perform air strikes on their nuclear plant?
Or, do you think Isreal will beat us to it?
If we were to invade, how in the hell would we do it, considering our armed forces are alread spread thin?

There will be no war. It will be just like Iraq's nuclear reactor in the 80s, Israel bombs it and that's the end for a long time. It would make more sense for Israel to bomb the reactor considering Iran is not far from them and has threatened on numerous occasions stated their desire to use WMDs to destroy them. It would be a legitimate act of self-defense for Israel so there is no reason the US would do it.
You are correct, we would not have the forces, nor the political strength to invade Iran, and even if we did I seriously doubt we would do it considering there is some hope for democratic reform or government overthrow.

No it wouldn't. It would be completly and utterly in defiance of all international law.

Which doesn't necessarily mean bombing the nuke plant isn't a legitimate act of self defense on Israel's part.

If your neighbor is threatening to vaporize your country and is on the verge of building nuclear weapons, then yes, destroying the reactor IS an act of self defense. If your enemy is building a weapon to destroy you, and you destroy the weapon it is an act of self-defense.

An attack against Iran will make the worsening situation in Iraq even more fucked up than it already is. Iran has three times the population of Iraq, 63% of that population is under 31 years of age, Iran is four times larger than Iraq, Iran's economy is twelve times the size of Iraq's as of 2003. Iran has not attacked it's neighbors in the mid east and the U.S. will lose what little credibility left that it clings to in the region. Do you think the insurgency is getting bad now? Let's multiply that by at least four... and say hello to the reinstatement of the draft. Look for a deteriorating situation in Pakistan and big troubles for Musharraf as he will come under increasing pressure for his assistance of the U.S. Should he lose power, the establishment of an Islamic regime in Pakistan will become more likely, an Islamic regime with control of nuclear weapons. While the U.S. gets bogged down in the mid-east, be wary of China more strongly asserting it's power in the world, Taiwan may be seen as being more vulnerable and ripe for invasion. Predictions? No, just some possibilities to ponder..

I agree, I just wonder if Isreal will stick its neck out like that, the backlash would just be another excuse in amognst the apologist muslims to send more suicide bombers into Isreal.
As I said, I could see Isreal, or us, or both, carrying out air strikes, but I don't think we will invade, as many of you have pointed out in this thread

We won't have to invade, Iran borders Iraq, the flood gates will be opened. Iraq will become increasingly dangerous as even more Muslims are prompted by events to fight the 'Great Satan.' It will spread.

I'm just wondering if you can just resist the draft so they just throw you in prison. Cuz I'll take prison over war any day.
