Can you "overcook" BRF?
    #3150850 - 09/18/04 02:20 AM (19 years, 5 months ago)

Just got done PCing my last batch of 4 jars(small PCer..), and I accidently let it get really hot, around 25lbs(around 265?F) for about an hour and a half.

When I took the jars out, I noticed that the cake is a bit more caramel colored than my other jars. Is this cause for alarm?

On the other hand, they're almost certainly sterile.........

Thanks for the replies.

Hes talking about a cake, mpt straight grains. Although you can overcook both grains and BRF. As to wether it will still be good or not im not positive. That color is from it caramilizing.

Hmm..

I would assume that the sugars in the grain are a major source of nutrition and energy for the mycelium. If they've caramelized, they may be less useful....

Maybe I should re-do them. Sigh.. lol

I decided to open one up...  it was only caramelized on the very outer 1mm or so of substrate that was touching the glass. The inside was fine.

I still decided to do 2 jars over, just for consistency.
