Fresh spores - lesser need to rehydrate?
    #3146392 - 09/16/04 11:39 PM (20 years, 4 months ago)

If a sporeprint has very recently been taken (4 hrs or less) from fresh mushrooms, is there really the need to 'rehydrate' the spores in the syringe for a good 24hrs? Would it be OK to shoot PF cakes 4-6hrs after being transfered from print to syringe?

I know patience is a virtue when it comes to mushrooms, but waiting around for no benefit is just plain annoying.

Hell, I've never done it that close together. I'd rehydrate, just to be on the safe side. With some of this stuff, you never can be too careful. I'm sure you could try it, but with the spores falling and landing on whatever you took a print, there is enough room for them to dehydrate some.

Anyone else have experience with this?

Definitely shoot them up as your spores are as hydrated as they can get! They become dehydrated after weeks/months in storage.

Rehydration isn't a necessary, it won't usually make a difference of more than 3 days in the total process. Sometimes i'll be making a batch of oh say.. 45 jars.. Went through probably 3 prints taken at different times and had no problem. The spores will rehydrate inside the jars as well, its a pretty moist environment.

45 jars? wow and i thought growing justa half dozen would be over doing it for myself but i guess as you get more growing you don't want to wait around, after contaims and shit so if growing i need to atleast do a dozen jars to have a safe number.. hope that made sense...

I'd go at least 12 1/2 pints. Really isn't much, a very managable first grow

Hopefully you wont have any contam problems, but lets say you lose one or two you will still be good.

cant really say much regarding the spores, don't have experiance with it

Fresh spores dilute into the water really well, that should tell you that they require little hydration to be ready to roll.

I made spore syringes from a print that was about 2 months old. There was a little bit, maybe 2cc's of spore water left in the bottom of the shot glass, so I dumped it in a brf jar I had made up. These had no time to rehydrate and the growth in the jar is amazing. It did take about 5 days to see any growth but now its taken off and almost completely colonized the side where I dumped it. I did hydrate in the syringes and the jars that were inoculated with the syringes are moving pretty quick. So I would think that better, faster growth comes from waiting. But as you have said it was a fresh print so I wouldn't wait on a fresh print, just an older print. Though both will colonize I believe.
