Removal of IE6
    #3150438 - 09/17/04 11:25 PM (19 years, 6 months ago)

I've been searching around for a way to completely remove internet explorer from my system. I'm running Windows XP. Is this possible/safe?
From my undertanding it's impossible to "completely" remove it from windows 2000 or later, and IE is required for some things like the Windows Update site. mshtml.dll, the html rendering component is also used by windows help and other parts of the OS.

No I don't think you can. Like Outhouse Express, you can delete it, but windows XP will just put a copy of it back in your files again.
Although I would like to get rid of IE, since I hardly use it. Maybe there is someway to do this..suggestions?

I have the "view in IE" extension for firefox. It adds a "view this page in IE" option when you right click. I only use it when I want to copy an image and paste it into photoshop.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting rid of IE, you can just not use it.

Why would you want to get rid of ie? Can't you just not use it?

I just stopped using it completely. And blink idiot, you use explorer to browse around your computer, not internet explorer. Alot of other things do require internet explorer components though.

The Windows Update interactive webpage requires IE, however, you can just download the updates yourself and apply them. Granted, you will have to research and know what updates you need, but if you are willing to go through with uninstalling IE, then you can figure out the updates.
