Ok..
I might be going out on a limb here.. I had this idea of putting a sterile rod through the center of a cake and create some kind of crazy ass mushroom rotisserie. All of the surface area could be used that way.. How do you guys suppose the mushrooms will deal with the gravity weirdness. I wonder how mushrooms would deal with zero gravity too...... o000oo000oo000ooo000oo000oo00o

Seems to me that since theyre still going to grow toward the light source that the pins will be growing so that the stipes will cover surface area if the light source is from a above.I wonder though how the pins will grow if light source was coming from all directions while the cake is suspended.Look cool to have a pin cushion cake.

Well how about if it was actually rotating slowly, like 1 RPM (hook it up to an old clock gear mechanism, on the seconds hand). With a light above. I would expect it would grow them straight out the sides then. But it could confuse them too, don't know. Sure would look neat, a carousel of mushies! You'd need to play them some carnival music...

Try it man. I think it would be a fun experiment.

Why not just put lights all around the cake, like christmas lights or something. Maybe have a clear container for the cake and the lights all around the outside. Seems aloft easier to me then actually spinning the cake.

How about posting some pictures when you get it all set up?
I almost want to try this idea now.

I was making my way down the forums this morning and made it to the grow log forum when i started thinking about your experiment again.I cant stop thinking about it for some reason. It occured to me that if the light source is coming from above and the cake is turning lets say counter clockwise, that the pins may turn with the rotation and all be laying against the cake in that direction. Then i was thinking what if they tried to turn back toward the light as it passed. Then I was thinking what if they zig zag back and forth trying to reach the light.I cant wait to see pics now. This is a great idea. You may come up with a designer shroom with spiral twists.
