P. baeocystis? P. cyanescens? id help.
    #3146102 - 09/16/04 10:34 PM (19 years, 6 months ago)

went out again today.  found lots of new ones i havnt seen before and lot sof the same ol same ol.  anyway i came across these.  and looking at these pictures:
http://www.mushroomjohn.com/species/species22abaeo9.jpg
http://www.mushroomjohn.com/species/species22abaeo11.jpg

i think i may have found them.  but got many doubts.  also foudn another type that may be active, but the gills are rather light.

http://www.angelfire.com/bc3/fungus/sept1604.html

here is the description to the 2 different types.  photos at link.

#1-
General: large wet mushroom. foudn in dark areas often by or under logs and ferns.
Habitat: Moist/wet, dark, cedar/maple/fir forest. scattereed other decid./conifers.

Substrate: Wood mulch. under suspended logs under fern fronds etc.

Grouping: all singular but sometimes there were many in a small area, none were attached.

Weather: Rain and small sunny breaks last week-2 weeks. heavy rain last 2 days. temps have droped about 10-15f from previous week. misty/rainy today.

Cap: 1-2.5 inches wide.fairly flat with a little nipple in the middle. most wavy but nothing extreme. brown.

Stem: some fairly long, but good proportion. still rather thick. biggest was about4.5 inches tall (only one that big) most were about2.5 inches. the monster was about 3/8" thick while most were 1/8-1/4". white, very vvery brittle, hollow in middle. fibrouse, like cheese string.

Gills: a lighter version of the cap, much lighter. this is where my doubts come in that its active. but not white.

Texture: wet/slimy. delicate.

Spore Print:

#2
General: Saw TONS of these. was seeing tiny tiny ones that looked similar a while back growign from cones (fir or pine???).
Habitat: moist woody areas. medium to little light. once found there were usually a fair bit. Mostly twigey type areas.

Substrate: wood mulch/mixed with dirt? mainly wood though, soem whole some really decomposed.

Grouping: small to large groups. nto many from the same little root clump, but many scattered around. from 1-4 per "root clump".

Weather: Rain and small sunny breaks last week-2 weeks. heavy rain last 2 days, cloudy and small drizzle when found. temps have droped about 10-15f from previous week.

Cap: light-medium brown/honey. averaged around an inche wide. the perfect looking classic mushroom-umbonate-no nipple

Stem: sturdy stron stem. solid fibrous very bendy. white with soem colour liek the stem in some.

Gills: straight dont attach to each other. cap comes down and the gills go into it making them invisible from a side veiw.

Texture: little moist, but tough feeling. does break easily but not compared to a lot of small mushrooms.

Spore Print:

spore prints should be ready ina couple hours, i will also have pics of the spores at 400 and 1000 times magnified at that time.

did i find any actives this time?  i just know im walking by a ton of actives just thinking that they are some common LBM that doesnt matter

#1 look like Collybias, similar to Collybia butyracea.

#2 suggest Hygrocybe to me. Try rubbing the gills firmly with a fingertip (hard enough to crush them some) and see if they feel waxy.

Happy mushrooming!

Most of the Psilo's haven't started fruiting yet dude, most are colder weather woodlovers. I know Liberty Caps have, and I think Stuntzii''s are too, but that may be it.

#3 I believe is Clitocybe Gigantea.

I just found some today in Bellevue, WA.

Those others are not baeos. not even close.
I can see how you would think those ones are cyans, but pretty sure they aren't either.
