Innoculation Question
    #3145802 - 09/16/04 09:33 PM (20 years, 4 months ago)

Should the spore suspension be innoculated through the jar toward the sides of glass (or even on the sides of the glass) or does it not matter?

It depends oh how long you want it to take. I usally twards the sides of the glass i alawys do mine so it washes down the side.

So when it washes down the sides it supposedly takes a shorter time to colonize? Why is that?

more even distribution of the spores. so what happens is instead of a little sploch of myc. you get a line down the side of the jar. Then it just explodes with colonization. when you have a strong exterior myc network it will conolize the interior faster.

Runs down the glass better then it runs down the middle of substrate. Shoot for glass.

Down the side spreads the spores over a wider area than one glob of spore solution inside the substrate.  This leads to a better chance that two of them will 'mate' and start the life cycle.

Also, if you shoot the spores inside the substrate, you will not have any indication that anything's growing for weeks until the mycelium reaches the edges near the glass.  Mycelium growing from spores shot down the side will be immediately visible, typically within a few days.

And finally, it's spelled iNoculation, not iNNoculation.

Good luck!

I plan on innoculating down the sides of the glass, and directly inside the cake. Any reason I shouldn't do this?

kramer tells me that he has seen mass growth on bottom of 1/2 pint  jar  with spores shot into the middle of the substrate(3cc worth) in as little as 3 days...

Kramer's substrate must be exceptionally light and fluffy; I'm impressed!
