myc growth through top of jars!!!!
    #3145217 - 09/16/04 07:21 PM (19 years, 6 months ago)

Well I just thought that I would post and let everyone know that my jars that I innoc, finnally come on and they are doing well!!!!
It took me putting them in the garage in a rubber maid in this hot weather to get them to take off though! The azurscens are in BRF,and my Gulf coast are in WBS. Which I would like to say that I will be growing with WBS from now on ,my jars innoc, some much faster and I used the polyfill and tyvek and I am very pleaseds I will post some pics!
My azurscens growth has grown through my layer of vermiculite so I am birththing then tommorrow when I get home!
Has anyone had this problem before?

your not planning on birthing jars that look like the ones in that pic are you?

regardless of the myc growing through the top layer you should wait for complete colonisation.

cripes!!

it looks like maybe your top layer got wet and stayed that way. the top layer of verm should remain dry.

it is possible to birth a partially colonised cake just be careful to remove every bit of the unconised portion as cleanly as possible.

in the future be careful to keep the top layer dry and maybe flip your jars halfway through to keep the water distributed more equally.

how long was this jar incubated?

yeah, upon looking at the full-size pic i'd say you've got a nice case of sour spot and possibly cobweb.

Hard to say, could just be myc piss....but I'd definately be careful, I'd let them incubate until all the jars are full colonized, that way you will know for sure if they are contams. I would also wipe that myc off the top. Because mycellium is a network, all that myc is connected to what's inside, thus exposing it to tons of contam risks. Good luck, just be careful!

I innoc on 8-15 with no growth until i put it in my garage and the heat kick them into high gear
Your probably right about them getting wet ,I have found that I liked the wbs much better less chance of something like this happening
The flipping of the jars is a good idea also

Ans yes it does look contam kinda no green though and it still smells good It only did that I think because it grew through the top
jmo
Thanks and keep the advice going first go at it I need all the help and advice I can get!!!

First off you shouldnt of opend it. Not ever untill 100% conlonization. first mistake, now i understand its exciting and all but your also trying to cultivate wood lovers in WBS and BFR. I think you should read up alot. i know your going to make spawn but use a karo tek to make your MYC and make up a small jar of woodchips. let that colonize to make your inital spawn dude!

cobweb and wetspot both smell notoriously foul

green is green. most all other contams are not green.

being your 1st time it will be hard for you to tell if your looking at myc or cobweb. smell is a big indicator tho.
