San Pedro
    #3140414 - 09/15/04 07:00 PM (18 years, 6 months ago)

I have three San Pedro that arent getting enough light inside. How big should the light I put on them be? Should I use fluorescent?

any additional light would be good, a south facing window is probably better

If they're doing sizeable ammounts of growing entirely inside, flouros arent going to cut it. You probably need actual grow lights.

well i bet if you used an array of compact flourescents it would probably do decently well.  if you had say 4 27w CF's ( 1750x4 lumens)then that would be equal to a low wattage HPS (around 70w maybe 5450 lumens).  But yea if you want to get serious about growing indoors then invest in a 1000w MH   Are you getting any abnormal stretching with the cacti?  Also what kinda light setup do you have now?

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.

Tubes are better then CFL's. I plan to get a MH and run that for my cactus colection for winter but keep them outdoors spring-fall. If your just keeping tall pedros indoors for winter storage you can use floros at 25-40 w/ft and water less.

I have a heat lamp on them that I use for a lizard cage, like 75 watt. I have another 100 watt light bulb on them, on the package it says it covers more spectrum of light. I broke my fluorescent.

Nope, use cool floro tubes or sunlight. You can get a fixture for under $10, if not free used.
