Frozen Mushies
    #3132615 - 09/13/04 11:38 PM (19 years, 7 months ago)

So what do you think, these mushies were frozen then thawed, and bruised such a deep blue that some look almost black. They still good or just to be thrown out?

you can only freeze them properly when cracker dry. otherwise you get shroom snot if you get them out of the freezer. I don't think they're still good...

It wasn't done on purpose. I figured they wouldn't be good. They are really thin and basically black now.

That happened to me once. I ate them about an hour after they unthawed. I still got high

Broke down cell walls a whole lot letting it oxidize real bad. They can still be ate but will be NASTY. Probably a lil less potent too.

The shrooms turn to mush in the freezer, but no oxidation takes place there, so surely if you take them out and eat them straight away, not giving them a chance to oxidise, they will be okay?

Wait, so it IS ok to freeze them if they are dried right? I've never actually had extra mushrooms laying around before until recently and i heard freezing them was a good way to store them.( I already searched)

If they're completely dry, it should be fine.

im telling you putting them in the freezer fresh ... is bad. I WOULD NOT EAT THEM...especially if they look black,,,, if you want to ...but you have been advised NOT to... take it any way you want.. maybe throw a grain of salt on them grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..................

Hehe sure, but as I said, surely if they were edible before they were frozen, no decomposition would take place in the freezer, so wouldn't they be edible as soon as you took them out of the freezer?

would you eat a black, rotten mushroom from the market?

Well no, but that kinda misses the point. Rotten mushrooms are rotten. Frozen mushrooms aren't (unless I'm wrong), they are just a sloppy mess. Am I right, or am I wrong?

Well they look like normal dried ones, just really blue. I guess i'll try them and see how it goes. Mixed opnions here are tough, so I dunno.

If you froze them and they turned a deep blue, then you fucked up. Bruising means your killing the psilocybin.

I thought it meant that psilocybin was oxidizing into psilocin.

No oxygen kills psilocybin... Psilocin is 10X more acitve than psilocybin, but your body converts psilocybin to psilocin anyways.

Killing, yes, but not killed, necessarily. I freeze tea and its always blue both sides of being frozen and its always fine, as long as I drink it straight out of the freezer. I wouldn't have thought that it would be different with fresh shrooms. Just eat them straight away.
