Straw questions

I have never used straw, either on its own OR mixed with poo.
But I ended up with a little bit of straw the last time I hit the local farmers up for horse poo, farming communites kick ass for shroom growing
Anyway, I have a litte bag of straw here and I am wondering ,
HOW MUCH SHOULD I CUT IT UP???? I was even thinking of putting it in my "pod buster"
Should it be choped really well or does it matter??
80%poo 20%straw
I usually dont soak my poo I just wet it and cook it, does the straw need to soak??? I didnt think it would matter as once it gets wet it will soak up watter and its only about 20% of the mixture.
I hope this goes well. (poo pies, with a touch of straw )
Thanks.

I'm doing my first grow with straw and poo as well, and the suggested ratio of straw to poo is anywhere from 75%/25% to 90%/10%.
I would suggest reading the straw teks, they were helpful.

If you read them why are you using your ratio then?
And why didn't you catch this:
"Straw straight from the bail will work, but pre-shredding it prior to use will help. The easiest way to do this is with a shredder. Or, if using small amounts, just place some straw in a cardboard box use a sharp pair of grass shears. You want the pieces to be 1-3 inches in length."
By the way, I got that from http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/7940.

AN even better meathod i heard of is throw the straw in a plastic garbage bin and cup a slit with a hole so you can stick a weed wacker in. Its like a real big blender and keeps eveything contained. You can also throw some steel wire either thick braided or many single lines instead of poly line for better chopping action. I used the lawnomer meathod and it blows it around and only cuts to 4-6" pieces. The finer the better.

Because I thought my ratio of 80/20% poo /straw seemed ok. And as for your other comment, well there is more then one straw tek you know, logs , bulk, etc etc.
"1 to 2 in." Thats what I wanted to know, simple.
"You want the pieces to be 1-3 inches in length" Great
and I like hearing peoples opinions on things ,maybe I should have had a thread, your thoughts on straw

I think that's supposed to say "little" in his post, so does he really need to get that into it for such a small amount?

Cut it up as tiny as possible. The mycelia uses the hole in the center of the straw for footing and support. I grew P. mexicana on straw and it was great.

Ok, I'm trying to help you, don't get so defensive.
And there is one, it's called "Straw," and I posted it earlier today. Maybe a thread search could have helped you, many of these questions were answered there.

"...maybe I should have had a thread, your thoughts on straw."
Ok, I know how I feel, how about you just shut the fuck up and drop it?
How's that for text vs. tone of voice?

I apologize. Seriously.
I'm a pothead and I haven't smoked all day (I'm sure everyone knows how that is). I'm normally very chilled out.
Good luck.

incorrect. pulverised straw will fail spectacularly. it must maintain it's "straw" shape. the whacker in a bag method will generate a lot of straw dust and pulverised chaff. a good solution for this problem is to use something like the bottom of a 55 gal drum inside a bag. drill .5" holes all in the bottom and shake the stuff from time to time. the pulverised mes will sift through.
so... is anyone going to answer his question about whether straw should be presoaked or not?

I never said go that fine. You can just shake the container and leave the dust at the bottom when you unload. Ive worked with straw in jars but i chopped by hand into 1/2" pices and it worked great.
