I guess it doesnt really matter, as the bigger your tubs are the longer they will just take to initially heat up and how often it will be running to try to maintain the temp. I use a 150 watt for about 25 litre tubs and it works great. Just set the heaters temp a little over your desired incubator temp and you should be alright on any size so long as it isnt enormous like a 100 litre set of tubs. But then again, I wouldnt be surprised if it a 200 watt could heat a 100 L tub.

Hope this has given you a bit of direction. Good luck.

decent answer Dr_Nick

here's a few thoughts.

the less water the heater is in the faster it will evaporate or overheat in the event of a fault.

so, in a sense, more water is better... to a point. take note of how much water the heater is designed for and, obviously, don't exceed that. for all intents and purposes the smallest heater you can find is going to be sufficient.

I have a 22 gallon tub with a 125w heater and that thing keeps it 78-84 degrees. Add a little bit of H202, hydrogen peroxide, to the water to keep mold out. I used a glass tomato juice bottle filled with water/H202 and put a latex balloon over the top to keep evaporation to a minimum.

Incubator set up.

1. First thing get your bottom tub and put in your heater. I also add a water pump to mix the water that way it heats up much more evenly but it isn?t a necessary item. I got the tape from a boat shop and it has been working for some time. Good stuff for underwater.

2. Next put something (I used tall half pints) in each corner of the tub. This will keep the heater and pump safe from being smashed if I put in to many jars or do something stupid.

3. Now be sure to set the heater before you put on the top tub. I attach the top tub with zip ties cause the top tub will want to float.

4. Add the water. I like to add as much water as I can before it starts to spill out.

5. If you use the heaters with the external controls set them now to get ready for the jars. Mine use a dial and a sensor that gives the temp inside the chamber rather then the water. It also has a metal bulb rather then a glass one.

6. Finished
