How should my mushroms come in?
    #3144300 - 09/16/04 03:28 PM (20 years, 4 months ago)

Well, Ive got pins but to my understanding the cakes are supposed to flush, not just grow a few mushrooms. One cake has one 2 inch mushroom growing, one cake has 2 small pins, another cake has two inch long mushies and the rest are showing no growth. They all went in the terrerium at the same time. I guess Im just confused, how should these mushrooms grow? Id hat eto end up with like 1.5 grams per cake :frown:

What are your growing conditions (setup, humidity, etc...)?

Umm,

~15 days in terrarium
75 F
85% humidity
~3 hours light per day

On the north side of my terrarium there is one cake growing two decent sized mushies and the cake on the top left has many small pins (just formed today.

The south side of my terrarium has one cake with one decent sized growing mushie and another cake with a few small pins.

Ive been worried my humidity is to low. All of my pins have formed on the bottom of my cakes (I flipped them over today).

No, went straight from the jar to the terrarium (first grow).

The Dunk and Roll Method:

1. Birth your fully colonized cake into a zip-lock bag then add water until cake is fully submerged.

2. Place in fridge for 24 hours.

3. Remove cake and roll in clean vermiculite.*

4. Fill a shallow lid with dry vermiculite and spray with water till nice and damp.

5. Place cake on vermiculite.

6. Add dry vermiculite to the top of the cake and mist the entire cake, vermiculite and all.

7. Place in terrarium and wait eight days on average for pins.

* To sterilize vermiculite put in microwave safe container (spread out evenly) for ten minutes, then stir and use. Also make sure to wet the vermiculite to target moisture before microwaving.

This will significantly increase your yield, other than that I can't think of why the cakes are producing so poorly other than maybe low humidity. Anyone else?

Probably this is the totally wrong thread to post this in, but MycoCat, does me using this name bother you at all?  I didn't see your name before I signed up. . .  I don't want to you to think I'm trying to impersonate you or abusing your TM name

Um...I suppose I would rather you had a different name just so people don't get us confused, you have a pretty small amount of posts so it wouldn't be that big a deal. Do you mind?
