Kerry and Bush running neck and neck in White House race: poll

20 minutes ago Add Politics - AFP to My Yahoo!

WASHINGTON (AFP) - As the convention-time boost enjoyed by President George W. Bush (news - web sites) began to wane, he and rival John Kerry (news - web sites) were again running neck and neck less than two months ahead of the November 2 election.

According to the latest Harris Interactive poll posted on The Wall Street Journal's website Thursday, Kerry secured 48 percent of the intended vote, compared with 47 percent for Bush.

Independent candidate Ralph Nader (news - web sites) garnered two percent of the hypothetical vote.

A slim majority of respondents (51 percent) said they do not believe Bush "deserves to be re-elected for another four years," compared with 45 percent who said they do, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Bush had enjoyed a slight lead of up to 11 points over Kerry in recent polls, as his party held its national convention in New York at the beginning of the month and as Kerry's records in Congress and Vietnam came under sustained attack.

The survey was the first by Harris Interactive since August, when Bush and Kerry each garnered 47 percent of the intended vote.

The September 9-13 poll of 1,018 adults has a three-percentage-point margin of error.

An online poll at the Wall Street Journal isn't really that all encompassing. The only numbers that matter are the ones that the electoral colleges have.

Uh...the electoral college won't have any numbers to give out until the election. And considering that the Wall Street Journal tends to be a more conservative newspaper, I think these numbers are very telling.

I told you he hadnt won it yet. I was getting worried though. I've been real negative and pissed off at the world lately untill I herd of this news today. Now I have a little bit more faith in humanity.

Stop lying about what I post here. I've said no such thing and you know it.

I'm getting pretty damned tired of you accusing me of lying while you repeatedly lie about what I actually do say here.

Play it straight or stay out of this forum.

Well it looks like the Democrats and their forgeries did their job well without drawing too much attention to their own hypocrisy.

Settle down guys. Just wait. Kerry will show the world that the only reason Bush is Pres is because he was born on 3rd base.

The bounce? I think this means that a significant number of voters decided to vote for Bush cuz they had a flashy red-white-and-blue convention is NewYork.

Now apparently these same voters forgot about the shinny on screen USA flags behind the speaking guests of the convention.

Someday, American presidents will just never unplug the TV screen. Yeah, that's it, have a convention that lasts for about three months, (the three months before the election).

That's all it takes to get a whole bunch more votes!...I just hope Nader and his crew think of it before ol' Bushy. They better start saving up if they are going to get a TV screen bigger than the Republicans.

Rasmussen Reports Daily Presidential Tracking
Date | Bush | Kerry
Sept 16 | 49.3 | 44.7
Sept 15 | 47.3 | 46.4
Sept 14 | 47.1 | 46.5
Sept 13 | 47.2 | 46.4
Sept 12 | 48.3 | 45.2
Sept 11 | 47.5 | 46.1
Sept 10 | 47.8 | 46.2
Sept 9 | 47.5 | 46.8
Sept 8 | 48.2 | 46.5
Sept 7 | 47.3 | 47.3
Sept 6 | 47.6 | 46.5
Sept 5 | 47.6 | 46.4
Sept 4 | 49.1 | 44.7

Sorry, but there is no way Kerry is tied with Bush right now. About two weeks of polling here shows Kerry not once regaining a lead -- the difference has ranged from 0 to 4.6 points. The largest gap was yesterday and while the majority of the polls up there are within the margin of error, the odds of them all being off is statistically improbable. Unfortunate either way you look at it.

Yesterday's Gallup poll had Bush up by 13 points. 54 to 41. But the election wasn't held yesterday. A lot can happen between now and election day.
