Ellemy's Exercise Log (part two)
    #3143487 - 09/16/04 02:35 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Okay  *sigh*

If there is one thing I have a problem with, it's consistancy.  The only thing I do constantly is my writing.  Exercising and eating right...I tend to do those for a few weeks straight and then my enthusiasm fizzles out.

Essentially, I am starting this thread because I want support and advice in an envirnment that I am comfortable with...(the Shroomery!).  Now on to some more info:

I haven't been feeling very healthy lately to say the least.  It's not that my diet is bad, it's just all over the place.  So is my sleep schedule.  I'll sleep for 12 hours one night and then only 2 hours the next without blinking an eye.  But I don't feel good about it.  I'd like to get on some sort of schedule where I can eat healthily, exercise, and get the proper amount of sleep consistantly.  Knowing me, this is easier said then done.  But I've been feeling so poorly lately that I know I have to try.

My goals for the next week:

*Exercise at LEAST 30 minutes every day
*Eat a wide variety of healthy foods
*Get no more and no less then 8 hours of sleep a night

So here we go...advice/encouragement/kicks in the ass/etc all wanted.

Hi woman

I think you only need some postive reinforcement.
You have the goals. Now you need a plan of action.

And that is ...........

Now the task at hand is to make yourself a schedule and stick to it. You need rewards at every goal met. Mabey you could turn this thread into your rewards. Everytime you make a new mark, post it. We'll give you more positive encouragement. You can do it kinda stuff.

You should start with goals that are reasonable
Then within a few weeks set goals that are just past what you think you can handle.

It only takes 60 days to establish new habits.

You can make it thru 60 days

/me kicks Ellemy in the ass, if only for fun

you seem to have all the right ideas, you just have to be consistant and make sure you don't let it slide.  Make time set aside each day for those goals and as FN said, stick to it and establish a habbit.

Oh! you could even get Kevin to wokr along with you if you want company, it's what I do with melissa

Thanks guys.

I tend to respond VERY well to positive reinforcement.  I think I'll try rewarding myself with personal writing if I exercise.  Like, "I will not get to write today unless I do my exercises."  Since writing my fiction is very important to me, this may work.

It occured to me today as I was sucking down an Ozarka water that I haven't been drinking nearly enough of it lately.  I used to drink over 2 liters of water a day, but I haven't been doing that since college started a few weeks ago.  I'll add:

*Drinking at least 2 liters of water a day

to my goals list.

Today:  I just ate a 6 inch Subway sandwich for lunch.  I think that I'm going to go write my history paper (that doesn't count as personal writing) and then exercise afterwards.  Okay...hold me to that, guys!!!

Much thanks

*me*

Yo girl! I've had the same problem.

My whole life I've been overweight. I fucking hate it. Body fat, goddamn shit!! I started working out around 5 years ago, and I still think I'm fat. But I had the same problem as you. I would work out for a few weeks, then just stop! WTF? I had absolutley no desire to keep working out, even though I cringed everytime I looked into the mirror. You have to convince yourself that you want to lose weight. The only thing that keeps me jogging every single day is the fact that I am so utterly tired of being overweight. I don't want to be like this anymore, so I am going to change it. Eat healthy and exercise everyday. All that snackfood stuff? Fastfood? FUCK IT. I don't even consider it anymore. It's not an option. When I look into the mirror all I see is fat. Even though someone else would say I am in excellent shape... no. Heh, I don't think I'll ever be inshape enough to satisfy myself. But look at the goodside, I'll be jogging everyday forever and be one healthy S.O.B. at the age of 80

You can do it. You have to get yourself to the point that you become angry with yourself that you missed a day of exercising.

It's not that hard at all. It's just the amount of time it takes is what gets to people.

I'll be honest.

The last week has been a dud.

I need to remember that committment actually means = committment.

But I have a date with Aya coming up, so I'll try and use that to motivate myself. "Treat my body like a temple" and all that.

Okay...I'm going to do this.

My advice is to mostly focus on the excercise and eating. If you excercise regularly you will need less sleep in my experience (the sleep you get will be of higher quality, I only sleep about 4 hours a night and I feel great). If you don't feel like excercising do it anyway. I fell into the trap of not excercising because I didn't feel like it for a long time, but the key is to think of it as a job. Do it no matter how tired or unmotivated you feel. I recomend 15 minutes of stretching followed by 10 minutes of running/elliptical/caridiovascular followed by 30+ minutes of a good weight routine followed by 45 minutes of running/elliptical/caridiovascular. It will be hard at first, but after a few weeks you will feel like a new person. This routine brought me out of near suicidal depression/anxiety and boosted my self confidence. Don't let your friends distract you. Treat excercise like a job. (sorry for any spelling/puncuation errors I'm a bit drunk right now)

You'll fall into the swing of things, just keep plugging away at it. Don't let it seem intimidating, cutting parts of your day out to do something you might not want to. z@z is right, you are employing yourself at a job and you should treat it as such so you don't shrug it off.

Oh you traitorous whore. The queen of Chocolate commands you back to her delicious kingdom. What a fool you were to defy her. Did you think she wouldn't notice?

Renounce your sins and be saved by the tender grace of Chocolate. If you're lucky, there will be powdered sugar on top.

My grandfather used to have a saying that there are two kinds of people in this world - those who like Chocolate, and the Nazis. He was killed in the confectionary war of 1931.

You go girl! Commitment is so tough when it comes to taking care of yourself sometimes. I was so happy for a friend of mine who plumped out after getting her own place and being able to bake cookies all the time  She was super skinny in high school, and it just devastated her for years that she weighed as much as me (when I'm over a head taller). Just last month she started walking a mile over her lunch break at work, and I was blown away by the difference in her! Not only does she look better (not totally skinny again, but she's on her way) but she's in a better mood and is more positive about life in general. I was so inspired by her that I started biking to a local track and jogging a few laps (something that I've always wanted to do, but I am NOT a jogger). Not that I look any better (yet!), but it's fun to carry on a good vibe. So now I'm sending that vibe your way, best of luck!  Here's to your good health!

Um...I don't like chocolate.    So I guess your entire post is pointless.

I like you too, Fucknuckle.  You give good advice.

Kevin and I live in Texas (Austin area)

UPDATE:

I'm channeling my determination.  My husband and I have set out a space of time to exercise every night, and made a diet plan for both of us.  It will be a lot easier to accomplish my goals when he is doing them too.

It's really began.

Thanks for belittling me. Please, lighten up! I was just messing around; did you think I was SERIOUS? Did you think I was making fun of you or something? It was strange; somehow, I thought that I might get this reaction. Sorry for wasting your time. I'll never say anything like this to you again.

I know that I'm knew on this board, and you have seniority, but I'm going to continue to post here, and I think you'll find that I'm not an ass. Goodbye and good luck.

Dammit, we should have an "emotional content" button.  You can never tell what someone's tone is from letters on a screen.

No harm, no foul.  Rock on, Elle!
